There are 6 version, for 32bit and 64bit computers, ( .rpm , .tgz, .deb )
Is there anyone who can explain, how is it possible to install this on puppy slacko 5.5 ? On windows I was big maxthon fan, and I would like now to continue using maxthon on puppy.

Thanks in advance

It runs as root if you do a tweak or two.
Based on Chromium.
Seems rather unstable to me, but have only taken a very quick look at it so far.

good for android

It works well in Android, so it will be good news if it also works in Puppy Linux.

Hi !

I installed the Maxthon deb file ( did not extract it )

But there is another option: Extract the deb in a folder ,(in case you have "dir2sfs command in the right click menu ) right click on this new folder (containing the extracted Maxthon files ) and choose dir2sfs . It will create an sfs file from this folder . this sfsfile can be loaded .
but it starts only for me with maxthon --user-data-dir in terminal.

Hello Kicalaf,

Those libs are not really missing. They are in the firefox directory and normally they can be found by other browsers. I think the wrapper script in Maxthon blocks them out unless you edit it. No need to install them again anyway.

In Slacko 5.5 there may be a missing lib or two. Not sure about libgconf2 but it is available from PPM or from my Chromium thread on the forum. My Slacko 5.6 has been remastered so that lib is included.

I did use the .tar.gz and made a .pet with all the work done to make it suitable for Puppy, but on testing it crashes very easily so I don't really want to upload it for general use. I can upload a .pet or a .sfs for you to grab and take a look if you want (say which you prefer), but really it needs to be debugged. It is a beta so maybe they will get some reports, fix it and release a better version soon.

What are the advantages this browser has over the others in your experience?

hi !
Maxthon looks almost like Chromium browser .
Some say it seems to be a Chromium clone ..others say Chromium seems to bee a Maxthon clone.Dont know if there is any advantage on using Maxthon over Chromium .
cheers !

Thanks Oscar,

I would like to see that .pet file for sure.

I will put the report on the maxthon forum about the bugs.

About those missing libs, I really don't know why but during installing, terminal has been always reporting about missing. And I didn't know better way, but to install them again.

I love maxthon because it's fast ( at least before on my windows computer ), and has some features incorporated in the browser without need to install through add-ons etc. But the main feature which I like on maxthon is that I can log-in into my maxthon account and in a few seconds to have my bookmarks. extensions, everything in the browser ( no matter it's some strange, foreigner computer ). And after logging off, the browser will also in second forget everything. In chrome and firefox such procedure takes much longer. And always has some "tails" not deleted on the computer.

That is I believe they call maxthon cloud browser.

Thanks in advance, Kicalaf

I have uploaded the .pet but will remove it in a day or two once you have downloaded it. Start it in terminal with the command maxthon (nothing else needed) and you should have a menu entry and a .desktop file to drag out a launcher icon. If it crashes from the menu try the terminal again. You might be able to get it to settle down and start every time. The crashes seem to happen because it tries to connect to somewhere and download something at startup.

You may need to right-click and save the .pet

The libgconf2 is in there as well if you need it.

They have released a new version 0.9.0.31 Beta now.
I have made a .pet (uploaded temporarily) and it seems a little better but it still crashes sometimes.
Hopefully all the bugs will be fixed soon.

Thanks so much Oscar

I didn't have spare time to answer about the previous version, but it was buggy very much.

This 0.9.0.31 Beta is working like a charm for now.

Thanks buddy

New version 0.9.1.0 beta now out. Seems a bit more stable. Chromium derivative so recent Puppies only. Has its own Flash Player. Still highly experimental and it is rather big so I won't upload to smokey01 but if anyone wants to take a look I have uploaded .pet and .sfs packages here:-
