Your source for information about printing in Puppy is here. It will take you to the Canon driver page here.

I would recommend the following:

1. Start a clean install of Slacko to get rid of these non-working printer drivers.
2. Connect the printer directly by USB.
3. Install the canon_mp495-3.40.pet.
4. Test.
5. If it works, put the printer back on the network.
6. Install the cups-bjnp-1.0.pet.
7. Delete the USB printer.
8. Detect and install the networked printer.

Please report back.

I own a Canon MP490 - the earlier version of your MP495.

1. I set up a Slacko 533 pen drive.
2. I installed the printer as an MP495 using the Gutenprint driver.
3. It worked.
4. I installed the canon_mp495-3.40.pet.
5. I re-installed the printer using that driver.
6. It also worked.

So I don't know why this is failing for you.

If you want grayscale with your MP495, try the following:

1. Install the canon_mp495-3.40.pet.

2. Install your printer in CUPS using this driver instead of Gutenprint.

3. Read the discussion here about adding grayscale to the CUPS menu.

hi i try to do what u say but dont work

1. Go to the folder /etc/cups/ppd and locate the PPD file for your printer.

2. Open it in a text editor and go down to about Line 66. You should see the section for "Color Model".

3. After that section at around Line 70, add the following:
Code:

*OpenUI *CNGrayscale/Grayscale: PickOne
*DefaultCNGrayscale: false
*CNGrayscale false/Off: "false"
*CNGrayscale true/On: "true"
*CloseUI: *CNGrayscale

4. Run the CUPS web interface, select your printer and open Set Options. In CUPS 1.4, look under the Administration tab.

5. You should now see a Grayscale option. Select it. Then click the "Set Options" button.

6. Print something that has color.

the grayscale option is always clickable without make all of this job but dont work
i'm just happy so i think this topic is solved
i think that the code is wrong or corrupt
