FatdogArm Alpha4 - 1 November 2013 [CLOSED] Subject description: Port of Fatdog64 to ARM platform |
|
Alpha4 is a minor bugfix release from alpha3, not a feature release.
Because of the bug in the RAM layer, everyone is recommended to upgrade.
Changes:
- fix nasty bug with RAM layer
- new method of distribution (kernel packages + SFS instead of disk images).
---
Release notes here: http://distro.ibiblio.org/fatdog/web/arm-alpha4.html
Get it from here: http://distro.ibiblio.org/fatdog/arm/releases/alpha4, for:
- A10 - Mele (and friends)
- A10 - mk802ii
- A20 - cubieboard2 (now supported, thanks to the contributor who donate the board to me and shall remain anonymous)
- PXA2128 - OLPC XO-4 (thanks mavrothal).
Discussions on previous alpha3 is here: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=89091. --- Note that Alpha3 binaries have been *removed* to make space for upcoming beta1 release.
Discussions for FatdogArm for OLPC XO-4 is here: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=734086#734086
Note: FatdogArm Beta1 has been released, announcement here.

Mr. jamesbond
Can I assume the fd-arm.sfs can replace the existing file in my SD card? It seems to work OK when I tried it.
Also, has anyone had success with the sound on the RCA ports (or HDMI for that matter).
Nice work james,
JW

Just curious, what was the RAM bug? I can't find mention of it in the other thread...

If you try to use the RAM layer feature (in other puppies, it is called as pupmode=13 mode), where you run the savefile with a RAM layer as a buffer for your savefile, the saving will not work correctly. Files will be saved; but deleted/moved files often come back or shows up at their original location. Nasty.
Ted Dog, yeah why not. All you need is to extract the SFS into a writable filesystem image, mount it, then chroot into it.

Anyone try this on a BeagleBone Black, please?
The weewx folks have weather stations running on a BBB using Angstrom (kludgy) and unbuntu but I always try to stay with Puppy.

I checked that exact model if the mele was no longer being made. Looked perfect. Check earlier ARM threads I think it has already been discussed. If you go that route let us know.

edoc,
In theory FatdogArm should work on the BBB as BBB meets the hardware spec required to run FatdogArm. You will need to build your own kernel and bootloader, though. The information is here: http://jamesbond3142.no-ip.org/wiki/wiki.cgi/FatdogArm/AdoptingFatdogArm.
Take fd-arm.sfs, and one of the kernel package. Inside the kernel package, there is a kernel and initrd. Throw away the kernel and use the BBB-specific kernel instead. As for the initrd, open it, replace kernel-modules.sfs with the one for BBB-specific modules, and rebuild it.
Take those (the kernel, initrd, fd-arm.sfs) plus BBB bootloader, and use it to boot the BBB. I don't own BBB so I can't go more details than that, there should be enough information on BBB to get you going.
cheers!

FatdogArm on Odroid-U2. Based on Alpha4 with minimal modifications (there are stuff in alpha4 that will crash it if not fixed).

Hehehe, what kind of news are you expecting? I'm currently building FatdogArm beta with gcc 4.8.1 and glibc-2.18 - if that's what you want to hear. It will take a while though as it is a full rebuilt. (No, I don't just change glibc). Meanwhile, alpha4 is very usable. In fact I'm building the beta using alpha4

Any news other than abandonment is good news
Someone in the beginner's section wanted to Puppify their MK802; I linked them here. We'll see how that goes...
Looking forward to the beta
