Maybe have some hotkey utility pets for various machines and their different settings?
My interface wlan0 Driver ath5k..can't connect, have you switched wlan on?
Problem, can't switch it on because Fn+F1 = nothing and F1 offers to download a browser?
setkeycodes SCANCODE KEYCODE is far too complicated for average user I would say.
Sven does not seem to offer Fn+ a function key button.

Fn+F1 =Brings up a dialogue (in XP) that offers Bluetooth and Wireless toggle ON/OFF. Sounds like it could be a little more complicated in Puppy
because there are two things attached to the one button.

Fn+F3 =Mute Volume
Fn+F4 =Volume Down
Fn+F5 =Volume Up
Fn+F8 =Brightness Down
Fn+F9 =Brightness Up
Fn+F11 =Silent Fan (this one works)

The power button (shutdown) now works in slacko 55, so that is one great improvement.

Sounds like Pemasu has got it nailed for netbooks then..

After all this work setting up Tinto Slacko I might have to jump ship!

maybe he's got a pet Phil666b...

Another thing I did find, if I left the wireless and bluetooth switched on from a windows session (with the popup dialogue switch thing) then when I boot up Puppy, the wireless works, don't know about the bluetooth though).

Must be some sort of bios switch.

Thanks for the info.

Well I tried xbindkeys 1.83 in the xbindkeys thread, but it wouldn't even show in the menu, until I pfixed=ram and reinstalled the pet(s).

So then we get to the config, hit a key dialogue..and it doesn't even react to the Fn button as usual.

Just to clarify, suspend, close the lid and the display shuts off has always worked since 3HD puppy, and probably preceding puppies (and those things are there in hard info, flawless).

So I request to do incorporate the xbind stuff with templates and just have the puppy boot knowing about the Fn+ another key!

Or at boot saying you have a laptop keyboard with hotkeys, is this correct?
Please select from list, the one that fits your model. Thankyou, have a nice day, woof woof.

EDIT: I was assuming that there are only a few manufacturers that make the keyboards for all the laptops in the world.
Maybe this isn't the case as I have now seen many posts on people not getting the hotkeys to function properly in both windows and linux.

Update:

I tried Pemasu's Precise Puppy, and the volume buttons work now.

Still missing that elusive wifi on off and brightness, but a little progress Wink

Sorry for the very late response.

I don't know that hot-keys are universal, some manufacturers may have their own set.

ASUS Eee is
Fn+F1 = sleep
Fn+F2 = Wifi on/off
Fn+F3 = Dim
Fn+F4 = Brite
Fn+F5 = ext. monitor/netbook screen
Fn+F6 = ???
Fn+F7 = Sound off/on
Fn+F8 = VOL -
Fn+F9 = VOL +
Fn+F10 = user defined
Fn+F11 NumLock on/off
Fn+F12 Scroll lock on/off

This setup was/is in Slacko 5.5-XL
