Any chance of a pet for the latest Gnumeric (1.12.17) ?

#1 Post by Pelo »

Gnumeric for windows is 1.9.3 (60MB).
Racy 5.3 : 1.10.16
Precise 5.4.3 : 1.10.17
Let us protect this jewel by keeping pets available.

Always keep in mind what you want to do, then you will choose the right soft for yr needs. Office suites are big and less efficient than specialized software.

still the best, no need of 150MB of a suite office. Just what you need at home. Included in all serious Puppies.

I like Gnumeric very much, but it has one big flaw: A 'help' file/manual written by nerds who seem to expect that most users already know how to use Gnumeric. And how do I know that, you ask?

Because most of the manual is still missing!

Gnumeric is in need of a big manual full of creative examples, in addition to descriptions of what the options actually do. You should not have to have a degree in maths or statitics to use Gnumeric. As the situation is now, the lack of a decent manual will limit the number of Gnumeric users.

Unfortunately, Numeric does NOT support DDE, and if you are accustomed to linking data from a downloaded spreadsheet to, say, keep up with daily stock prices, you can't do it.

Powerful for what it is, but not a full-functioned spread sheet.

new version
jades :
Any chance of a pet for the latest Gnumeric (1.12.17)? I know that you prefer the 1.10.xx branch as it's smaller but it'd be nice to have the option to get the latest version. The Salix repo on PPM has 1.12.9 but there isn't the option to examine dependencies (it does list them though).

Jamesbond answer :
That's because anything newer than 1.10.xx uses GTK3.

Yes, but 4MB is not 150MB too
Puppy can run many little apps in RAM
Libre Office will do better perhaps,
However, you can link cells between to gnumeric spreadsheets
