How to make a different key into the "V" key?
My V key is currently broken and I want to make it to where my Left Alt works as the V key. I've already made my Windows key work as Enter but the same method won't work to make Alt my V key? Any help?
This thread may have something in it to solve your problem. Read the whole thing, not just the first few posts.
I think that if the V key is broken, the problem will be finding out what code the keyboard is supposed to send when the V key is pressed. It seems to me that all keyboards must send the same code when V is pressed, so perhaps you could ask the forum what code xev shows when we press V, and use that code.

Re:
What I really want is X, I did the same with my Windows key(Which is now my enter key), I know the keycodes to both Alt and V but it just won't work with the same method
Read
and create a .xmodmaprc file .
Have not used it. I guess the forum search for xmodmap and especially by author Dougal should bring up some hits .
Code: Select all
man xmodmap
