Copying folder makes it grow over 3 times bigger. [solved]

#1 Post by Bert »

I created an icon theme directory with 53 icons in it. Its size is 252K.
(Puppy Precise, frugal)

When I copied this folder out of /usr/local/lib/X11/themes to a usb key, the size of the copied folder had become 896K :?

Both folders look normal, contain the same 53 icons and nothing hidden.

I copied by dragging the source to the usb key.
Then tried moving in stead of copying: same result...896K
Then tried "copy to" (right click tool --don570), same result.

Who understands what's happening here?
Thanks!

Just discovered the partition copied from is ext2 and copied to is fat32.

Could that be the cause?

Yes, because of the difference in block size. Having a large number of small files shows the phenomena easily.

Aha, problem solved :D

It was easily confirmed: I copied back the folder on the fat32 stick to an ext partition, and the size was 252K again.
But still, the size difference is enormous!

Thank you amigo!
