Updating Firefox failed

I attempted to update Firefox by using Help>About Firefox>Check for Updates. I elected to update and everything seemed to be okay until I restarted the browser and I got the Software Update Failed message - See below.

I ran the killfox command in the terminal and it showed that Firefox was not running. So I again Started Firefox and got the Software Update Failed message.

How do I get the update to take?

In the past I repeatedly ran into an issue that Firefox would not check the required disk space to perform an update, attempt to update, then crash (which would disable/break FF).

It may be that they've fixed it so that FF doesn't kill itself. How much spare space do you have in your save file? I've noticed that an upgrade can eat as much as 100MB, for a short time.

Check for updates after restarting the computer

It's possible that another running program or a previous instance of Firefox that did not close properly is interfering with the Firefox update process. This error can also occur if you share your computer with other users, and another user's account is still logged in with Firefox running. The easiest way to resolve such problems is to restart your computer. Once the computer starts up again:

Start Firefox,
At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Help menu.
Select About Firefox. Firefox will begin checking for updates.
