Is Puppy the only Linux OS that loads exclusively into RAM?

If not, what are some of the other distros?

Thank you in advance. Smile

Knoppix loads into RAM, doesn't it?

I know one of the people who did DSL ended up creating Tiny Core too.

But Puppy is, to my knowledge, the only one with up to date apps.

Hi all,

Actually, any distro which offers a live install image such as that found on a live CD loads into RAM... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_CD

As far as I know, the first distro to offer this feature was Knoppix which is still popular and in use today. I first tried it some nine years ago and was very impressed. I would have used it regularly except it did not have a driver for my printer (at that time).

Believe it or not, Debian also offers a Live CD found right here. So, it turns out that a live CD is not necessarily indicative of a small, minimalist distro.

That said, a live install image can also be put on a usb drive or other portable media: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_USB
