Lucid Puppy 5.28 - no audio

#1 Post by enginerd »

I have an old Dell that I installed Lucid Puppy 5.28 on. Puppy works great, but can't figure out how to get the audio configured. I used ALSA sound wizard and it will not play any audio. I did notice that the audio is set up on IRQ 17 in the BIOS. I don't know if that is a problem or not.

See if you can get audacity 1.3.9(or earlier) to recognize the audio card.
There are inputs available in the audacity window and an audio
file plays immediately without any settings when I first
install audacity.

More recent versions like Audacity 1.3.12 appear to use alsa to 'find' the
audio so there are models that don't work with puppy. The Audacity team
appear to have changed their technology a couple of years ago.

No luck. I'm starting to wonder if the audio card is fried.

Another check...

Install Porteus linux which installs a lot like Puppy linux
except there is two folders to drag to your hard drive
named boot and porteus.
