PostPosted: Sat 31 Aug 2013, 08:55    Post subject: xcompmgr and cairo-dock
Subject description: at startup

Hello,

sorry for this "very newbie question" :

I tried without success to start with xcompmgr and cairo-dock -o
I did a symlink into /Startup :
don't work,
into /root/Startup :
don't work

tried to write :
xcompmgr -c -C &
into /root/.xinitrc

no success

tried to edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf :
Section "Extensions"
# This enables kcompmgr or xcompmgr (if present)
Option "Composite" "Enable"
EndSection

no success too

Somebody could help me please ?
Best regards.

Edit : when I launch xcompmgr and cairo-dock in a console, works fine.

PostPosted: Sat 31 Aug 2013, 13:47    Post subject: USB Boot Stick

I'm trying to create a second USB boot stick using the Menu -> Setup -> Bootflash Install Lighthouse to USB.

The USB stick doesn't work & I think it has something to do with the UEFI mess but I don't recall how I got the first one to work.

Can I just create the same sub-menus on the new one and copy everything missing across from the working one?

Or is it more complicated than that?

The two images on the left are the working USB boot stick, the one on the upper right is the non-working USB boot stick:

I have a query relating to usage of Lighthouse Puppy. I am actually using the 32-bit version but I suspect the same thing would apply to the 64 bit version and this seems to be the thread that is read!

When I boot Lighthouse on my machine with an ethernet cable attached to an always on modem router it automatically connects to the Internet. I can, of course, disconnect by right clicking the network icon in the tray and selecting disconnect.

Is there a way of starting up in the disconnect state, preferably without connecting first and then automatically disconnecting? Ideally, I would like the network icon to be there so that I can right click and connect when I DO want to go on the internet.

Thanks.
Hello ICPUG,
I did not include the ability to boot without attempting automatic Internet connection. I will study this for the next release and hopefully include a setting that would apply upon reboot--no auto connect. I am focusing on 64-bit Lighthouse, however if you let me know which version of 32-bit Lighthouse Pup you need, I might be able to make a Pet for that purpose, after studying the scripts and tray icon source code.

New issue has arisen on my trusty X2 box. A HDD issue has come up and is shown below.

Below, as you look over the pics enclosed, on my system drive,
  1. the 1st physical partition is now labeled sda (this is OK and understood)
  2. And, after mount and opening GParted, I see a flag on the 1st partition.
  3. Looking at the information of the flag, I am supposed to have a correction option.
  4. Going back to GParted's Menu options, I see tht the correction option does NOT exist for the partition.
  5. Lastly, when I open LH64's Drive mounter, notice that the mounted partition, sda3, does NOT show up.
Question
What data can be provided to assist understanding and identifying why this has occurred?
My concerns are why the error may exist, why GParted doesn't have the "Check" option available for the partition and why the Drive Utility cannot "see" the partition.

DATA does seem to be intact, at this point.
Thanks for any assistance anyone can offer.
The GParted "Check" option is greyed out because the partition is mounted. Choose the 'Unmount' option in GParted, then Check should work. If the partition is not showing up in Drives Manager, try Fatdog Drive Mounter and Pmount in the Filesystem menu. If GParted cannot repair the file system, copy the data over to another good partition, in case it is necessary to reformat sda3 and restore from the backup. I don't know what would cause the unallocated space on the fat32 partition.

I don't think so.

Yes, I plan to update the Bootflash script to detect and point UEFI machines to the 'dd and fix-usb.sh' method from Fatdog64, described in the FAQ at http://www.lhpup.org/help/faqs/uefi-flashdrive.html
If fix-usb.sh fails and you have previously followed the 'dd' instructions precisely, you might need to erase the flash drive with the following command, prior to the 'dd and fix-usb.sh':
Code:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdd bs=4k conv=notrunc
where /dev/sdd is your flash drive without a partitiion# (e.g., sdd not sdd3).
NOTE: Do not use the dd command above, unless you are absolutely certain of the drive designation. (Using a dd command on /dev/sda might irrecoverably erase your hard disk!)

Re: Mariner vs. base. There currently is no indicator of a Mariner installation, apart from the presence of the extra SFS. You can determine which you have by copying over the script click-to-verify-mariner from the ISO into the same directory where your L64save file is located and click on the script. If the initrd.xz verifies OK, then it is Mariner, otherwise it is base, (or possibly changed if you had extracted and edited the initrd.) The only difference between the two ISOs is the presence of the extra SFS, and the contents of /etc/rc.d/BOOTCONFIG file inside the initrd, used to en-queue the SFS included with Mariner.

If you have a link, you could post it here in this thread.

Others would benefit and we could begin to spread the word.

Subject description: right click app to make install files

Hey everyone, I'm back in the real world again. Back on track with collage looking to getting in the masters program. Sorry Ive been gone so long. School, wife, job ....oh and the Hit and Run by a underage, uninsured, unlicensed driver, and no registration too boot.

all is well again.

Tazoc, Nice distro. I'm back to using LHpup after months of nightmares with Linux mint.

Well on to the topic at hand.

Right click dir2pet & dir2sfs for LH64

Are you tired of typing in terminal?
Just want to right click a dir that's ready to be made into a SFS or PET?
Get an option to auto generate a md5.
If so then this is the program for you.

Note: no spaces in dir name!

Just right click the DIR
Select SFS or PET

It will tell you the size and give you a chance to change your mind.

You will then get a terminal. Just sit back and let it do its thing.

You will then be given a choice to make a md5sum

I did this after loosing my mind and time in the command prompt making tons of depends for the LH64 LAMP stack.

Glad to be back.

Update: changed two letters in a Variable in dir2pet. fixes a file issue. Did not update the ver number as it was only 2 letters changed in one script!

Oh and I got LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySql, PHP) installed and working in LH64.

as of right now its running in spot! all of it. So even if your server gets hacked your system will not.

Just got webmin working too! http://www.webmin.com/
you can control it all from a web based GUI !

Working on getting libcap installed. This way ill be able to get any port even those ports 1-->1024 to work out of spot.
CAP_NET_BIND_SERVICE
Code:
setcap 'cap_net_bind_service=+ep' /path/to/program

"which is explicitly defined as the capacity for an executable to bind to a port less than 1024" http://wiki.apache.org/httpd/NonRootPortBinding

after that sort out some startup/install scrips and will have a LAMP Stack for LH64 in SFS. Load login set some passwords and have a full server.

Its kinda big. Sits at 1+ GB. 900megs of that is MySQL. I wanted the whole thing uncut so I and users can run any appliance we want with out missing depends.

SOON tm.

meeki - That is some amazing stuff!

Sure appreciate you sharing it ... now I just have to figure out how to make good use of it.

First, I need to make a current backup ... I know, it should be a routine, but life keeps happening.
