Linux alternative for mailwasher ?
On a daily basis, there is really an application which misses me with Puppy.
When I see my partner using Wailwasher Pro with his Win PC, I am jealous.
http://www.mailwasher.net/
Is there a compatible alternative with recent Puppy?

Hello, ASRI.
Could you not simply filter out or re-direct undesired mail to a "spam" folder
using your current e-mail application?
It took me a little time to configure the filter, but it works fine. Then, once a
day or every second day, I simply go in my "spam" folder, highlight all the
messages there and hit "delete".
Just an idea (if there is no Linux equivalent of the MailWasher program).
Best regards.

P.S. Perhaps you could also consider using an on-line e-mail service such
as crawler.com or inbox.com. Such services, most of which are now free,
do a pretty good job of pre-screening the spam and setting it aside in
its own folder. Then, it's up to you to review the messages in there that
are worth keeping or deleting, of course.

Hello to ASRI and all.
Try spamato?
Sourceforge: http://sourceforge.net/projects/spamato/
wiki: http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/spamat ... nformation
I could not test it fully on my machine because I use a webmail service.
So, you're on your own... But who knows? The reports are good.

Hello Sylvander.Sylvander wrote:The best I've found is SaveMyModem [smm].
Not quite as good as Mailwasher, but almost.
I use it all the time.
Like you, I think SMM is the only alternative currently available for Linux.
What I do not understand is that since 2004 (date of the last SMM package), no Linux utility can do better than the old SMM.
A SMM2 could be considered (alas, I am not able to complete the project).
To test with Precise Puppy 5.7, I consulted two discussions:
- I tested the package available on the Murga forum http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=307227
- I also tested the package available on Sourceforge http://sourceforge.net/projects/savemym ... mm-1.0rc2/
Alas, nothing is compatible with Precise Puppy 5.7
I tried to compile (from sources available on Sourceforge), but I did not succeed.
However, I do not admit defeat me.

Hello Jasper.Jasper wrote:Hi,
MailWasher works well via Wine. Perhaps, try the free version.
The free version will only recognize a single email account and mine has a minor quirk in that I have to exit the program twice (I did take it up officially years ago - but there was no known fix then).
My regards
Indeed, MailWasher Free is compatible with Wine.
But this is not the solution I'm looking for ...
I want an open source application (for broadcast/modify freely).
I need to check multiple email addresses;
Thank you for your info.

Utilities that you propose are interesting, but it's not what I want.
The advantage of a utility like Mailwasher (pro) is that you can manage/delete/view your e-mails (from different suppliers) without downloading.
It's better than activated email filtering after downloading.

There was a Mailwasher for Linux but the developer, Firetrust, ceased development at an an early stage. I have it and use it on all my Linux distros. It came with 30 days free trial. While it was available Firetrust sold a registration key and I purchased one. Maybe Firetrust would still be willing to sell a licence if you ask? Failing that there are probably ways of renewing the free trial period.
I have also run the Windows version on Wine but it does not look as good as the Linux version and generates a Windows error message when it closes. However, it does work.

I found an application that seems to be interesting.
Mailfilter http://sourceforge.net/projects/mailfilter/
I tried to compile the tar.gz archive, but I can not do it (I am a novice for compilation).

I am not competent enough to update and improve mailfilter.
Too bad, because an opensource application inspired by MailWasherPro (Windows) would probably be appreciated by many users.
