HI Mu, tried running: talktext1 /usr/local/talktext1/testtext-en and got:
sh: say: command not found
Any ideas? Thanks too for the really prompt reply.

oh sorry, you must use:
talktext1 -en /usr/local/talktext1/testtext-en
The -en option will use "talk".
Without it "say" is used.
say is just included in the german pack, to read german texts:

talk is used to read english texts.
