Suggestion P2P video calls?

#1 Post by stefe1 »

Hi, one thing i would love to see is a P2P video app.

something simple with the features of Skype.

I have no problems with Skype or the way it runs until you realize that the NSA is running it.

so, how come there has never been an alternative for linux? (or has there?)
I know that Skype uses central servers but why can't you just direct connect to your friends? maybe even with encryption? or maybe even with a different type of encryption for each video call?

As the internet is becoming an information harvesting ground, maybe we could use some more 007 apps?

Just saw this but surprised no-one has answered you. PSIP can indeed do peer to peer calls and is also able to use encryption as well as be run through a proxy. Video is currently being worked on for it too I believe but I don't know how actively.
Some other voip clients that run on Puppy are Twinkle, Linphone, and the Ekiga Voip client. I'm pretty sure that Twinkle and Linphone both support video but I'm not sure.
