Upup Raring 3.9.9.2 with non-PAE 3.9.9 kernel. 13 July 2013

#1 Post by pemasu »

Upup Raring 3.9.9.2 with non-PAE 3.9.9 kernel has been uploaded.

Latest announcement from this thread: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 241#719241

Previous announcement:
Libiculess build. Other under the hood stuff removed. Iso size somewhat reduced.
This build introduces new feature in Pup-Kview. You can create report from all the firmware dependent modules and see what firmware it needs. It helps using for example dvb tuners which often needs firmware. I have created megapack of dvb firmwares but I havent checked the status of them yet. There might be firmwares still missing.

Pburn 4.0.2 which should support now f2fs installation.

This build has 3.9.9 kernel which is mostly usb fix update. I noticed usb related errors with 3.9.8 and I felt updating needed.

Small mostly cosmetic fixes based on the pm posts and forum feedback.

Download link: http://www.smokey01.com/pemasu/UpupRari ... aring3992/

Kernel source: http://www.smokey01.com/pemasu/Kernel_s ... up-raring/

Catalyst and Nvidia proprietary drivers in repo, check k3.9.9 version numbers so that you dont pick up wrong kernel version.

I tested different music apps with this build.

Grooveoff needs these .debs:
http://ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/reposi ... 1_i386.deb
From ppm with all dependencies:
libqt4-core, libqt4-gui, libqt4-network, libqjson0, phonon, gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly, ca-certificates
and then in console: update-ca-certificates

Spotify: http://repository.spotify.com//pool/non ... 1_i386.deb
From ppm with all dependencies: libqt4-dbus, libqtcore4, libqtgui4, libqt4-network

Clementine: straight from ppm with all dependencies.

Dependencies are sometimes easy to pick up by extracting the control file:

Code: Select all

dpkg-deb -R /root/my-documents/grooveoff_0.1.5-1_i386.deb /root
And then check: /root/DEBIAN/control file content where the dependencies are listed.

Screenshot from above installed apps: http://i.imgur.com/3UErOte.jpg

I didn't see the new version until almost 3 hours after it was posted!
I'm slipping up.
Manual frugal install to an 8 gb SDHC card running on my Acer laptop.

It's looking good so far but have to wait to do more testing,
it's supper time.

Wanna listen Shoutcast ?

There is shoutcast plugin which is suggested to as downloadable when you install this monster sized Mozilla xulrunner based browser media player:

Package: nightingale
Version: 1.12~beta-0~13056~raring1
Depends: gstreamer0.10-plugins-good, install with all dependencies
Description: Nightingale is a desktop media player
a digital jukebox and Web browser mash-up. It supports extensions
and skins feathers. Like Firefox/Iceweasel, it is built from the Mozilla
cross-platform and open source framework, based on Songbird.

running with nvidia NV44 GE Force 6200

#7 Post by charlie6 »

Hi,
Raring-3.9.9 + installed the above nvidia-glx-319.32-k3.9.9-upup.sfs
It is reported the nvidia kernel driver failed to load.
(system ask for vesa nvidia driver...but there isn't any present ...!?).

I forced the nvidia.ko as well the nvidia-agp.ko to load (doing depmod -a and modprobe nvidiaxxx.ko) + restart X or reboot without result.

I also ran nvidia-xconfig + reboot without result.

Any advice would be welcome
Thanks in advance!

Here are some infos.

Charlie6. Load devx sfs and kernel source sfs. Then download getnvidia pet: http://101.143.161.76/puppy/opt/getnvidia-0.9.8.1.pet
Exit to console state and run: getnvidia
Let it create the pet and sfs for you. Test your home made.

I suppose you have supported nvidia graphics for 319.32 version ?
If you have legacy class graphics, it wont work.

Edit. It seems getnvidia pet has picked up my catalyst compile drivers also. Lol. There are now stuff form nvidia compile and from catalyst compile inside pet and sfs. Heh. I need to recreate them without catalyst installed.

Looking good so far.
On my nvidia GeForce FX5200 the nouveau driver loads OK with this kernel, no missing graphics and around 400 FPS with "vblank_mode=0 glxgears"

These are the .PET and .SFS packages of the nvidia legacy 173.14.37 driver which gives even better performance at around 1400 FPS with "glxgears"

nVidia-173.14.37-k3.9.9 pet and sfs has been uploaded to the repo. Thank you OscarTalks !

About NVIDIA-Linux-x86-304.xx driver. I dont know how to cheat getnvidia script to create other than newest nvidia driver. Also I dont have nvidia graphics so I dont have know-how to create 304.xx proprietary driver.

If there is talented people and willingness to create that pet, I will grant 10 virtual pizzas to the creator, lol. And I will upload the pet/sfs to the repo for others to use.

Upup Raring 3.9.9

#18 Post by Jim1911 »

Hi pemasu,

Your latest Upup Raring is great, it's worked well for everything I've tried. Bibletime still doesn't work properly, however Xiphos does. That bug is caused by Ubuntu Raring though, not your Upup. For Xiphos to have any resources to use, Bibletime still has to be installed.

Thanks for another super distribution. :D

Quickpet has now proprietary graphics drivers, kernel source and devx sfs tabs updated. Just use quickpet update button inside the app.

666philb has done splendid job by keeping quickpet uptodate. Thanks !!!

Cheers.

Hi pemasu,

Your new NVIDIA driver worked perfectly for me, just had to reboot, nothing else.

I tried VirtualBox, however it gives this error message although it does have the kernel source loaded:

Code: Select all

# VirtualBox
WARNING: The vboxdrv kernel module is not loaded. Either there is no module
available for the current kernel (3.9.9-upup) or it failed to
load. Please recompile the kernel module and install it by

           sudo /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup

You will not be able to start VMs until this problem is fixed.
VirtualBox: supR3HardenedMainGetTrustedMain: dlopen("/opt/VirtualBox/VirtualBox.so",) failed: libpng14.so.14: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Jim
