Hi John,

I'm posting from it now, live. It boots but one thing I can't do so far is run Flash on it (for Youtube etc).

Good effort anyway; I like the 2 series Pups and it's good that someone's still releasing a derivative based on one.
Gigabyte M68MT-52P motherboard, AMD Athlon II X4 630, 5.8 GB of DDR3 RAM and a 250 GB Hitachi hard drive running Ubuntu 16.04.6, MX-19.2, Peppermint 10, PCLinuxOS 20.02, LXLE 18.04.3, Pardus 19.2, exGENT 200119, Bionic Pup 8.0 and Xenial CE 7.5 XL.

Hello Colonel Panic,
Strange? I can confirm flash works. With ever increasing content and HD being put in web pages and the fact that the 10 series of flashplayer is the last version compatible with Legacy OS 2 series some flash content won't play.
I've never had trouble with Youtube and watch regularly TV shows on a Pentium 4 PC. Testing on my trusty Pentium III shows Youtube with dropped frames but the sound is perfect. Legacy OS 2 is my main OS full time. I live it breath it improve it. LOL!

This is why 2 more releases of Legacy are under development and are planned for release in the coming months.

Hi again John,

Is your copy of Legacy 2.1 installed to your hard drive? Mine isn't, and I again tried to get Flash working on my machine and sadly, no go. All I got was a black rectangle instead

I should perhaps add at this point that I'm reluctant to install a distro to my hard drive because Grub install doesn't always work properly, and you can end up (as I have on several occasions in the past) not only not being able to access the distro you've just installed but also the others already on your hard drive,

Hello Colonel Panic,
I've had success using flash with both live and installed. 90% of Legacy OS usage is with the system installed to Hard Drive.

Hi again John.

I can watch Youtube videos just fine on Legacy OS4 Mini and the last version of OS 2, both live and installed; I could even watch them on Teenpup (before it was renamed Legacy). It's just this one that seems not to be able to play them.

Look, if it's just me reporting this problem don't worry about it; it's not worth troubleshooting just for one user. It might be just a quirk of my machine. Thanks for your time anyway.

Hello Colonel Panic,
To make way for the games I removed a lot of apps. Nothing was removed that should affect flash and Youtube. If other releases work on the same machine then in all reality Gamer should too. Very strange. :?:

Been delayed because I forgot about the "too much ram and the installer won't work" thing. Couldn't install.....pulled out some ram down to 256 Mb and then no problem.
First, flash is working here. Youtube videos play ...no problem.Actually everything appears to be working.

800 Mhz
256 Mb ram
1.0 Gb swap

Hello again John,

I tried Legacy 2.1 again and Flash still didn't work, so I cheated :) I installed Opera 11.11 from the pet and Flash works just fine in it.

Download from Softpedia.

" Legacy OS 2 Gamer, a distribution based on Puppy Linux that is aimed at very old PCs, is now at version 2.1.

The developers has made great efforts in incorporating applications that still work on very old hardware, such as Pentium III. "

Here's the list of included games in Legacy OS 2.1 Gamer. Just remember games were chosen with the most chance of being playable on Pentium III Hardware. Sadly many great Linux games like Tuxkart etc ran too slow so were left out.

Hello sc0ttman,
I'd never come across Numptyphysics so thank you.

As a reward here's the game. LOL!
Download from http://sourceforge.net/projects/legacyoslinux/files/
Look in the "Legacy OS 2 Series Extra Packages" folder for game.

As is normal for all Legacy OS Package installs download the tar.gz, click on it, extract to / and reload the menu (Applications > Accessories > Misc > Reload menu)

Looks like a great game!

this may be outside the scope of your project but adding a few emulators can give you thousands more games...

Dosbox with dbgl provides a really easy way to play DOS games - "Another World/Out of this World" is a great DOS game... Also Civ II, many others...

But like many DOS games, they are better on the amiga. For amiga you can use various versions/forks of UAE...
There are some packages here: ppm.scottjarvis.com (see Emulation section)..

..some of these old games are honestly classic, very playable, challenging and great fun.

BTW, 'cave story' is still one the best little platformers on linux , you can get a patched/updated version at akita.scottjarvis.com .. And I do recommend xrick...

EDIT: I forgot, XSok (xsokoban) is a classic puzzler, it's TINY, very challenging, has many levels, and includes a level editor (well, can edit the level files, anyway!).

Also in the akita repo, gnu-go/cgoban are popular, old chinese board game progs... And xboard is a good chess frontend, forget the backend I used (fairymax?), but it's the lightest, and it's included in the xboard .pet. (i think)..

just for completeness, and so you dont have to trawl through them yourself, here are all games in the akita repo:

(you can search the livepackages5a.txt file in the repo for descriptions, sizes, etc)
