this is xbmc 12.2 frodo for precise puppy,

XBMC is an award-winning free and open source (GPL) software media player and entertainment hub for digital media. XBMC is available for Linux, OSX, and Windows. Created in 2003 by a group of like minded programmers, XBMC is a non-profit project run and developed by volunteers located around the world. More than 50 software developers have contributed to XBMC, and 100-plus translators have worked to expand its reach, making it available in more than 30 languages.

While XBMC functions very well as a standard media player application for your computer, it has been designed to be the perfect companion for your HTPC. Supporting an almost endless range of remote controls, and combined with its beautiful interface and powerful skinning engine, XBMC feels very natural to use from the couch and is the ideal solution for your home theater.

Currently XBMC can be used to play almost all popular audio and video formats around. It was designed for network playback, so you can stream your multimedia from anywhere in the house or directly from the internet using practically any protocol available. Use your media as-is: XBMC can play CDs and DVDs directly from the disk or image file, almost all popular archive formats from your hard drive, and even files inside ZIP and RAR archives. It will even scan all of your media and automatically create a personalized library complete with box covers, descriptions, and fanart. There are playlist and slideshow functions, a weather forecast feature and many audio visualizations. Once installed, your computer will become a fully functional multimedia jukebox.

Hi 666philb,

Many thanks for this excellent SFS. You did not mention which version(s) of Precise you tested it with but I decided to try it
with Upup Raring k3.8.7 and can confirm that it works superbly.

In order to get my pci DVB-T tuner working I did however have to install the following:

    tvheadend_3.4~raring_i386.deb

    xbmc-pvr-tvheadend-hts_1.6.19-0raring_i386.deb

These can be found here:

http://apt.tvheadend.org/stable/pool/main/t/tvheadend/

https://launchpad.net/~wsnipex/+archive/xbmc-prestable/+build/4495982

Thanks once again.

I've spent literally hours trying.

it is not necessary, to load the whole devx package ... only python-2.7 is needed...i have packed it to a pet file : python-2.7.pet(4.3MB)

This package either misses some files or is not taken from the devx 571.

The extracted Python from devx 571 is 5376 KB.

I have made such a Python SFS for the use of Openshot in Precise 571.

Just for your interest.

PostPosted: Sat 12 Apr 2014, 10:43    Post subject: P4 512MB RAM + 5.7.1 Precise puppy- XBMC 12.2 SFS problems!!

Hello everyone,

I'm a new user of precise puppy 5.7.1.

I have installed it on two machines, both almost 8 years old.

1- Laptop- intel centrino + 1.5gb RAM - full installation
2- Desktop- Intel P4 + 512 MB RAM - frugal installation

On the laptop the XBMC 12.2 SFS is running perfectly, but on the desktop the video is stuttering badly. In fact not only when playing a video but even the scrolling text along the bottom of the interface is stuttering.

I can't figure out what might be causing that, so all help would be appreiciated.

xbmc 11 update-

still a lot of stuttering. I may be wrong but is this because of the limited RAM?

I've setup a 2gb swap file but htop shows that it is not being use at all as in 0/2046mb.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated...
Might I add, that I've loaded the Libre Office 4.1.5 SFS and that is fine, I also loaded the devx-571 and still the stutter is there. I've also tried the other two packages, the python2.7 PET as well as the Python 2.7 SFS and the stutter is still there.

Help please........

Thanks in anticipation. Meanwhile I'll try if xbmc 11 sfs works or not. I'll post an update with the outcome.

also if you have an amd or nvidia card, have you installed the drivers for it?

@phil666.

Thanks for the prompt response phil666.

You're right the desktop with P4 and 512mb RAM is the one that's stuttering.

Hi would appreciate if you could kindly answer the following for me:

1- I've setup a 2gb swap file but that is not being used at all. What do you think is wrong?

2- I don't know how to check the video card on this machine and xorg wizard is not showing any updates? Can you kindly tell me how to get around this or may be direct me to more info on this...

general questions:

3- Does this forum have an android app support like tapatalk?
4- Is there a thanks button to thank people who help me, as is found on most other forums?

Looking forward to your kind assistance.

Thanks.

hi u81,

to find what video card you have, you can use this http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=73101

not sure why your swap isn't being used ..... maybe ask in the either the beginners or users section of the forum, as more people will see it there.

and no 'button' just saying thanks is fine on here Smile
