problème driver imprimante Canon i-sensys MF6550

#1 Post by gilloraymondo »

Bonjour,

Merci

Your Canon MF6550 uses the UFRII v2.6 driver. I found a Linux download here where the printer is called an imageCLASS MF6550.

There are instructions for installing the driver here at the end of the post.

There is also a discussion about authentication on these printers here.

Also read here.

Bonjour,

Hi RCRSN51

And thank you very much for your help. But I have a problem. I downloaded the file with your link. I have a file "Linux_UFRII_PrinterDriver_V260_uk_EN.tar.gz". Then, I extracted it but then, I don't see the files cndrvcups-common... and cnrvcups-capt....

So I don't know what to do. Can you tell me ? Thank you

Bonjour RCRSN51

Tu peux me dire ? Merci

Cordialement

Open the "32-bit-Driver" folder, then the "Debian" folder.

Are you using the instructions for the CAPT driver instead of the UFRII driver?

Hi rcrsn51
Bonjour rcrsn51,

Thank you for your help. Now I found the cndrvcups-common... and cnrvcups-capt.. and I installed the 2 debian folders.

Then, I opened a console and type :
mkdir -p /etc/cngplp/account
chmod 777 etc/cngplp/account

mkdir /var/captmon
chmod 777 /var/captmon

/etc/init.d/cups restart

Then I opened the CUPS web interface
Puis j'ai ouvert l'interface internet CUPS

There I have 4 choices
Là, j'ai 4 choix :
Canon MF6500 Series (FAX) CNUSB#1 (Canon F6500 Series (FAX))
Canon MF6500 Series (UFRII LT) CNUSB#2 (Canon MF6500 Series (UFRII LT))
Canon MF6500 Series (FAX) (Canon MF6500 Series (Fax)
Canon MF6500 Series (UFRII LT) (Canon MF6500 Series (UFRII LT))

I choosen
J'ai choisi
Canon MF6500 Series (UFRII LT) CNUSB#2 (Canon MF6500 Series (UFRII LT))
Is it allwright ?
Est ce le bon choix ?

Then I have :
Puis j'ai :
Nom (name) : Canon_MF6500_Series_
Description : Canon MF6500 Series (UFRII LT)
Emplacement :

You say I have to enter the URI as : ccp://localhost:59687
I entered it in "emplacement"

Then you say I must give it the same name as the printer model.
Must I modify the name in "name" and in "description" ? Mine is an "i-sensys MF 6550"

Doing this test I changed nothing

Then I opened a console and I typed¨
ccpadmi -p Canon MF6500 Series -o /dev/usb/1po
/etc/init.d/ccpd start

And then I have an error message
Et là j'ai un message d'erreur.

And, of course, doing a print test, it doesn't work.....

Thank you for your help
Merci pour ton aide

You are using the wrong instructions!. You are using the instructions for the CAPT driver, not the UFRII driver.

Please read the second half of the instructions here, after the ------------.

Since your printer is connected by USB, you shouldn't need to change anything.

Have you downloaded the right package? You should have a file called cndrvcups-ufr2....deb, not cnrvcups-capt..deb.

Hi rcrsn51
Bonjour rcrsn51,

Thank you for your help.
Meci pour ton aide

With a new frugal instalation, I tried again.

I located the two files "cndrvcups-common_2.60-1_i386.deb (2.6O-1 and not 2.20) and cndrvcups-ufr2-uk_2.60-1_i386.deb (2.60-1 and not 2.20-1) and i clicked on them.

Messages of successfull installation
Messages d'installation réussie.

I opened a terminal and typed :

mkdir -p /etc/cngplp/account
chmod 777 /etc/cngplp/account
chmod 4775 /usr/bin/cnpkmoduleufr2

and then I have the following message :
Et là, j'ai le message suivant :
chmod : cannot access /usb/bin/cnpkmoduleufr2. No such file or directory

Any idea about what is wrong ?
Une idée sur ce qui ne va pas ?

Thank you for your help
Merci pour ton aide

It's usr not usb

If the file does not actually exist, then the two Debian packages did not install properly. Read here where boxR installed the UFR II driver with no problems.

What Puppy version are you using?

Hi rcrsn51

You're right !!!!!!
I did the same thing, but this time writing "usr" and no "usb".....And I got no more the error message....

Then I open the CUPS internet interface.
There I have to choose
Canon MF6500 Series (FAX)(Canon MF6500 Series (FAX)
Canon MF6500 Series (FAX) CNUSB #1(Canon MF6500 Series (FAX)
Canon MF6500 Series (UFRII LT) CNUSB #2(Canon MF6500 Series (UFRII LT)
Canon MF6500 Series (UFRII LT)(Canon MF6500 Series (UFRII LT)

(But, you know, mine is a i-sensys MF6550.......)

I don't know what to choose. I suppose I must choose the third one.....
because the printer/scan/copy/ fax device is conected to the computer with an usb cable. So, I choose the 3rd, and I clic on "continuer" (go on)
The following window, I do nothing else than a clic on "continuer" (go on).
The following window, I have :
Nom (name) Canon_MF6500_Series
Description : Canon MF6500 Series (UFRII LT)
Emplacement :
Connnexion : cnusb:/dev/usblp1
Partage : Ne pas partager cette imprimante (no share this printer)
Marque : Canon (and I see there I can choose another trade mark, but of course, I do not do it !!!)
Modèle : there I must choose the printer model. I see 2 lines with "Canon MF6500 Series UFR II LT ver. 2.6 (en)
I suppose I can choose any of the 2 ?
So I choose one and I clic on "ajouter une imprimante " (add a printer)
Following window :
"Définir les options pour Canon_MF6500_Series"
I clic one of the "Définir les options par défaut"
following window :
Canon_MF6500_Series_ (inoccupée, Accepte les tâches, Non partagée) = unocupied, accept works, not shared
I clic on administration" and then on "définir par défaut" (default printer)
Following window :
Then I clic on "maintenance" and then on "imprimer une page de test" (print a test page)
and.........Nothing happens.....
I clic on "affichage des tâches terminées" (show finished works)
And i see
Canon_MF6500_Series_-1 Test Page anonymous 1k inconnu (unknow) and the date and the hour.
Do you see what is the problem ?
Thank you for your help

That is wrong for Puppy. You probably need to change it to

Code: Select all

cnusb:/dev/usb/lp0
You may be able to change it by running CUPS Modify Printer.

Hi rcrsn51

OK, I go to "administration", I clic on "Modifier l'imprimante" (modify printer"
Then I have :
Modifier Canon_MF6500_Series_
Connexion courante: o cnusb:dev/usblp1
Imprimantes locales : o Canon MF6500 Series (FAX) CNUSB #1 (Canon MF6500 Series (UFRII LT))
o Canon MF6500 Series (UFRII LT) CNUSB #2 (Canon MF6500 Series (FAX))
o Canon MF6500 Series (FAX) (Canon MF6500 Series (FAX))
o Canon MF6500 Series (UFRII LT) (Canon MF6500 Series (UFRII LT))
o pdf writer (PDF)
o imprimante SCSI
cnusb:dev/usblp1 is already selected. So I change nothing.
I have too, on the same window, other things for networked printers. I select nothing, and I clic on "continuer" (go on)
following window :
Modifier Canon_MF6500 Series_
Description: Canon MF6500 Series (UFRII LT)
Emplacement : nothing is written there. But I can write something. But I have to change the conexion not the place, so I write noting there
Connexion cnusb:/dev/usblp1 (cannot be changed there)
partage: o partager cette imprimante
I do nothing but clic on "continuer"
Following window : The one I already sought when instaling the first time.
I do nothing, and I have the final window.

So, I don't see where I can do the change to "cnusb:/dev:usb/1p0"

Can you help me ?
Thank you

Here are two methods to try.

Method A:

1. Delete your current printer from CUPS.

2. Run Add Printer again.

3. Instead of the Canon choices, select AppSocket/JetDirect

4. Change the "socket" entry to "cnusb:/dev/usb/lp0"

Method B:

1. Delete your current printer from CUPS.

2. Go to the folder /usr/lib/cups/backend.

3. Delete the file cnusb.

4. Reboot your computer.

5. Run CUPS and install the printer again.

Hi rcrsn51
And thank for your patience.

Method A:

1. Delete your current printer from CUPS. = done

2. Run Add Printer again. = done

3. Instead of the Canon choices, select AppSocket/JetDirect = done

4. Change the "socket" entry to "cnusb:/dev/usb/lp0" = done

I suppose the l in "lp0" is the letter L and the 0 is zero.....
And there what must I write (name and description) : Canon MF6500 Séries (UFRll LT), or Canon MF6500 Serie (FAX) or exactly just like it's was written before : Canon MF6500 Series (UFRllLT) (Canon MF6500 Series (UFRll LT)) or solo MF6500, or (mine is a i-sensys MF6550) Canon MF6550, or ......

Method B:

1. Delete your current printer from CUPS. = done

2. Go to the folder /usr/lib/cups/backend. = done

3. Delete the file cnusb. = done

4. Reboot your computer. = done

5. Run CUPS and install the printer again. = done

I chosen the "UFRll LT" and not the "FAX".
Then I do a print test page = nothing works......

Thank you for your help

Hi rcrsn51
Bonjour rcrsn51,

None of the A or B methods work.

So, I must understand that it's not posible to use a Canon i-sensys MF6550 printer with puppy linux....

Thank you again for your help

It may be that an i-sensys MF6550 is different than an imageclass MF6550 and this driver package does not apply to your model.

Do you have a way to connect your printer to a network instead of by USB? This would eliminate the problem of determining the correct USB device in CUPS.

What Puppy version are you using? I don't believe that you have said yet.

Hi rcrsn51
Bonjour rcrsn51

I did all the tests with puppy wolx 5.5 RC2

Install the printer as a network : I just don't know how to do.....

Tomorrow morning I'll travel to the caribbean aerea and I'll stay there 2 weeks. So I won't be able to do tests before mid june.
