jwm noshade

#44 Post by broomdodger »

I found this discussion Posted: Sun 27 Jan 2013:

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 9f45f2f6da

Suggesting that this would disable window shading,
but sadly I have not found it to work.

<Group>
<Option>noshade</Option>
</Group>

Is there any way to get it to work?

#46 Post by npierce »

broomdodger,

What version of jwm do you have?

Code: Select all

jwm -v
I don't have Precise 5.5.94 yet, but I'd guess that it is using jwm snapshot 574, since that is the latest in the repository.

As noted in the thread you linked to, you will need jwm snapshot 667 or newer to use this feature. You can find a newer jwm here:

JWM Desktop Updates to V755 (Release) and V75? (Test)

I don't know if anyone has tested it with Precise 5.5.94 yet, so can make no guarantees about how it will perform for you.

(Note: You will need to restart the X server after installing a new jwm, so that the new version will be loaded -- jwm -restart is not enough.)

Precise Puppy version 5.5.94

# uname -a
Linux puppypc3484 3.2.44 #1 SMP Sun May 5 11:42:44 GMT-8 2013 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
# free

#

Manual frugal install to an ntfs partition on my E732 laptop (cracked screen) so using an old external LCD monitor. Works well.

Booting via an SDcard (ext2) with grub4dos.

All the basic user stuff seems extremely good and works as expected. Very fast - luvly Puppy.

Info report and menu zip FYI.

Precise-5.5.93 upgrade to Precise-5.5.94

Upgrade wet well for the most part however... Leafpad did NOT survive the upgrade! Even with a re-install of leafpad, it just doesn't work. It appears the files are all intact, even the menu entry but... no leafpad?

So far, everything tested seems to work well!

WiFi appears to be holding, even survived several reboots... we'll see?

Hi !

Hi !

Desktop icons and fonts disappear after PPM installs program .

There is something wrong for me when i trying to download from Ppacketmanager . (not in every case ) .... but on a lot of occasions when process of downloading continues suddenly all my fonts become Squares and the whole rox pictures and fonts are just a red triangle and completely unreadable .Then i must shut down.

Cant use Ppacketmanager .
Same with UPUP RARING 5.8.7
Could it maybe have something to do with the fact i have in Puppy Eventmanager"never save to ram Pupmode=0 " never save to ram " configured ?

Who can help ..similar problem ?
Here someone with same problem.

SmartLink modem driver and daemon packages

#51 Post by rerwin »

Here are the slmodem driver modules and the slmodemd daemon that also supports the ALSA modems. Only the SmartLink PCI modems are supported, because (apparently) the USB driver violated a licensing constraint but, more significantly, beginning with Wary at least, slusb behaves erratically -- currently it kills X and locks up the PC if the device is even plugged into the PC! It definitely does not belong in a puppy release.

I have tested all of the (now 7) driver packages with the appropriate PCI hardware. The remaining package, hcfpcimodem, I cannot test because I have no such hardware. But I have not included it because of its limited usefulness: a maximum speed of 14.4kb unless a license key is supplied to it ($15 or $20 US). That seems adequate for faxing, but little else. Considering the obsolescence of the device, it seems unlikely that anyone would pay that price. Note, too, that it does not support "riptide" sound cards that include an HCF modem.

Having said that, I am willing to provide the package if anyone, at all, wants it.

As before, the 'splitpetjoin' script package is included, to recombine the firmware package parts. See instructions on previous page.

Although I assume these are too late for the 5.6 release, they can be added to the pet package library for installation by the user.

nvidia sfs problems

#54 Post by peebee »

shinobar wrote:Some optional SFS'es available:
http://shino.pos.to/party/bridge.cgi?puppy/precise/opt/
I tried nvidia-glx-319.17-k3.2.44.sfs as kindly provided by shinobar at the above link on my desktop with nvidia graphics.

I had problems with error messages from nvidia as shown below and a message asking me to reboot to get nvidia working at every reboot - also the new xorgwizard did not offer nvidia as a possibility to select.

Nouveau is selected on initial boot and does work - but is always shifted off to the right on my desktop so I need the nvidia driver to have a perfect display.

Peebee you need the 304.xx driver , the driver you used does not work for your vid card.

Testing several PCs & old laptops (#5)

#60 Post by fronkonstin »

This last test doesn't work.

LiveCD boot of Precise 5.5.94 on an old laptop HP Omnibook XE2. It is a Pentium II @ 333Mhz, video is "Silicon Motion, Inc. SM810 LynxE" (according to test done long ago with Ubuntu 6.06)

Behaviour is as follows: on first boot, a text mode dialog appears for selecting keyboard language & timezone. Then, the xorgwizard only allows to select "vesa" video driver. Then selected resolution 800x600 -> black screen.

Behaviour is the same after reboot (power button hold for 4 seconds).

Any ideas?
