Subject description: Puppy ISO

It's a pity that with every release Puppy is just getting bigger and bigger. We are now already exceeding 150mb. I am still using Puppy 431 (Small). The ISO is only 97mb. Perhaps a cut down version of Weary getting rid of the very old drivers (similar to Puppy 431 small)?

hey nic

there a few stripped versions about, a new one here built on racy:

http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?search_id=1600890753&t=82661

and the like of thin slacko and quirky small

I do have a soft spot for 4.31 too, if it works for you, keep it!

I have to say that 'Weary' is a truly apt name...

Cheers, Ally but I'm using Puppy on an oldish machine. Quirky will probably not run that well. Puppy 431 is great , though. Puppy's great attraction for me has always been it's small size. My claim to fame is a puplet I made of a stripped version of Puppy 412 which includes java and opera 11 with flash as well as most of the other applications seen in a normal puppy release. ISO is only 105mb and I still use it sometimes. Mostly however I use Puppy 431 (small) with a save file including java, opera mini, opera 11 with flash and WINE

what was the name of your own build, I collect all puppy iso's for posterity so would like a copy if I haven't got it

a lot of the issues with build size are things like xorg getting big - I know from BKs blog he's trying to make quirky small each time

consider some other mainstream distro's are into several gigs 180Mb isn't too bad!!

No name, no release, for private use. LOL. Can make it available though, not bad for for a puplet which includes java, opera 11 flash, etc . It's actually about 117 mb but still quite small given java's mighty size.

Any suggestions on a name? It has: Opera 11 desktop browser plus flash; Java, Microemulator to run Opera Mini (which is included) on desktop; most of the applications that comes with the normal puppy release including: GPicView, AbiWord, Gnumeric, Osmo, Dillo, Asunder, Gxine, Pmusic, Precord, PBurn, etc. The sfs file is 114Mb

nicOS, sounds about right, thanks. They don't host puplets on that 412 site. Perhaps I will just upload it to 4shared or some other file sharing site. Could be useful to someone as you said.

Hi nic007

I think you will find that they do host puplets on that 412 site particularly if the puplet is based on Puppy-412.

If you don't want me to host your ISO then the best place by far to upload your ISO for sharing is Dropbox You get 2GB free storage. Put your files in the 'Public' folder and you can even hot link to them directly from the forum. Best of all your account does not expire due to inactivity.

Hi, tuxtoo. Yes; I saw links to a few of the well-known puplets there but didn't think my humble attempt will fit in. Anyway, dropbox is a good option.

It seems it is not the fault of Puppy at such
the devs of all the other things are getting used to
that everybody has big machines now Smile

So one need to do slim versions like them describe above.
