puppy-chubby-1.0.4.iso download quit. What gives?
The download link for puppy-chubby-1.0.4.iso seems to be down. I got 47% of it, then my connection just died and can't be resurrected. Has anyone else experienced this?

Chubby NOW
I could not even get through to the server in the first 24 hours
We now have a bit torrent which will take the strain
and prove more reliable

Basically, you need an FTP client that has a resume function. Opera also allows you to stop and resume downloads, something I've done several times in the past, as I am also on a slow net connection.Rich wrote:How do you resume a download after a connection break?
Xandros (the current distribution on my machine) does not include Opera or a GUI FTP client, so I tried downloading with wget, which will resume downloads but did eventually time out on me this morning when I tried to download Puppy 1.0.4 overnight. I then could not reconnect with Ibiblio to resume the download. Maybe tonight.

Now that you point it out to me, the answer seems painfully obvious.

Rich I use wget also as it supports resumes, I have written a simple GUI frontend that allows me to pick the directory to download to and to continue after a dropout.
I am working on getting the output displayed in a text window at the moment so that I can see exactly what is happening.
Chubby Puppy I have downloaded but It took a couple of attempts to connect and after having to reconnect I had to wait a while for it to start downloading again but once it did it ran at a consistent 3.5K until my 4hrs was up.

i usually use wget to download large files, because it can resume
i wrote a small program that downloads Chubby and checks the md5sum here:
http://www.murga.org/%7Epuppy/viewtopic ... &start=219
it uses wget ... just click it to download Chubby
whatever program you use to download Chubby, it may take a while to connect to the server ... maybe 5 minutes or more, so you have to be patient
or you can download using bit torrent

Chubby Puppy Download - Server Update
Since Chubby Puppy was loaded to the server, quite a few people have downloaded it:
(Current as of the timestamp of this posting)
The server should have not be having problems handling the load. Additionally, there should be enough bandwidth available for the load being placed on the server for this file. With that in mind, I contacted my upstream provider and had them double check a few things. I believe that the difficulties have now been resolved.
If anyone has any problems connecting to http://www.puppy.wise-guy.us/ I would like to know about it.
Please PM me with any problems accessing the site and I will investigate this again.

This is the biggest download I have ever successfully done on dial-up, even with a few disconnections. Thankfully the cygwin port of Links resumes downloads if I reconnect soon enough. I simply set the Dial-Up Networking in Windows NT to automatically redial after 1 second whenever I lose my connection. That way I don't lose any sleep over it. Literally.
i usually use wget to download large files, whether i'm using Linux or Windows
i've had Win ME crash 3 or 4 times during the download of a large file (as in hit the reset button to reboot) ... and the files always seem to download ok
here's a small gui for wget, doesn't need installing (just unzip and run):

If using dialup even 39 meg is pretty massive
However Barebones 1.0.4 is worth it. If I was downloading one Linux with dialup to play with - this would be it.
