Computer freezes while saving ram to pup save file!

#1 Post by dodge42 »

i play a lot of Minecraft on my netbook; but it often freezes up and about 5 seconds later it says "saving ram to pup save file" and then the only thing i can do is change the brightness or force shutdown. the mouse of course is stuck on the game and therefore i have no cursor, and most of the keyboard won't respond either. and by the way, i'm running precise puppy 5.5.
here's my specs:

Hi dodge42 - menu->system->eventmanager .. go through the tabs 'til you get to save interval (probably preset to "30" minutes), set it to "0" (no save during session). Restart X so the new setting becomes effective. Play game..

You should get a message at end of session (reboot or poweroff) when it's saving after it leaves X (the usual desktop environment) and goes into the shutdown routine. There's also a way to set it up for a save|nosave option (like liveCD multisession) if you like - shinobar's pupsaveconfig can do that as I recall or there's a few threads on this forum describing how to edit rc.shutdown.

hth & welcome to the kennels :)
