Installing an .sfs file on a full installation of slacko-5.5

#1 Post by dbd400@gmail.com »

I read whatever I could, downloaded the sfs, and proceeded to "...mount an xterm on it", whatever that meant. In so doing, I clicked upon the .sfs file in a ROX-filer window. Unexpectedly a little window opened offering "View Contents", or "Install". I chose "View Contents", then backed out and closed the windows.

I had searched upon "Install .sls on slacko 5.5, hoping for something simple like that install option, but now I am in doubt. These are the instructions to install a .sfs file.
Full hard drive installation
This is a conventional Linux installation.
Currently, installing the "devx" file in a full hard drive installation (as opposed to a "frugal" installation) is slightly more complicated, and you can't undo it. It involves some steps....
1. Click on the devx_xxx.sfs in a ROX-Filer window to mount it.
2. Open a terminal in the mounted directory.
3. # cp -a --remove-destination ./* /mnt/hda2/
4. # sync
5. Close the terminal.
6. Click on the devx_xxx.sfs file to unmount it
Note, the '--remove-destination' option is essential. If you only use '-f' to force overwrite, it will follow (dereference) a symlink, that can cause unexpected overwrites.
I do understand that Puppy Linux in all its variants is a work in progress. May I, instead click "Install", and the right things will happen?

Thank You.

Try this:

Right click your sfs and choose "sfs_load"

That is a bit easier.
