See first page please,

ISO: http://lxpup.weebly.com/lxpup.html

Hello danneauxs,

You can't upgrade because, I changed the lxpup's base. I switched precise to slacko.

PS: I put some ads on the site, I'm sorry. Please, if you can click on an ad, it would help me a lot! Thanks you !

Ah, I do remember that being mentioned but it didn't register.

Already have the new one and will get to work with it.

Suggestion:

Change text to:
"Don't buy a new computer;
Download a better one."

Other than that, your website is very nicely done. It has an elegant look and feel with good information.

The ads are not a problem.

Question: What is the difference between 13.01 and 13.01 Full ?

The explanation is HERE

_________________________________________________

Slacko 5.5 supports gimp 2.8.4 found HERE
so it should be possible to upgrade the version.

Thanks again. However I removed "Pop" ads, it's uncomfortable when a person is browsing the website ...

Just put the ads back, I think it is justified for all the hard and friendly work you do.

USB HDD not showing up

#609 Post by danneauxs »

I have a 3TB Hitachi USB (3.0 capable but plugged into a 2.0 PCI card).
This card does not show up in 13.1FULL nor in 12.12. My Kindle Paperwhite DOES show up though. I forgot my thumb drive at work so couldn't test that. My wifi is through a USB device though and that works fine.

I have several versions of puppy on the computer as well as WinXP.

Puppy lupu 528 (windows installer version) - drive is found every boot.
Puppy lupu 543 Retro - NOT found
Puppy LXpup 12.12 - NOT found
Puppy LXpup 13.01Full - NOT found
wary 5.3 - NOT found
Xtrm423 - NOT found
WinXP - works every time.

FYI I've unplugged the Kindle and tried booting all just in case it didn't like having them both plugged in - same results.
I tried unplugging the USB cable for 20-30 seconds and plugging it back in on each puplet and no good.

TIA Danneauxs

--Hi Jerome!

I will download the beta and test. I will let you know if I get any problems compared to regular Lx 13.01.

EDIT:
Tested on my desktop. C2D 2.8GHz 4GB RAM 8400GS Nvidia OS X & Win7 in other HDDs.

Found my USB audio, NVIDIA card, my wired internet. Saw my USB HDD and could read my OS X HDD and files.

I couldn't get VLC installed in PPM or Gslapt. Tried different versions.
Used FF but Flash didn't work after installing Popup blocker/downloadthem all/ download status bar. Picture viewer / Abiword / etc worked.

Jejy this LXDE is (almost) perfect. Sometimes white screen on reboot. Need to reboot. I hav'nt seen more bugs: professional work !

Ethernet and Wifi : fine with Medion P7624 (kernel drivers)

Suggestions on LXPUP

#612 Post by mistfire »

I download your lxpup...i noticed that the cause of large ISO file is that your are using firefox as a browser and also goffice is included. I wonder if you can make a NOP version where in the Office app is not included on bulid but loadable via SFS and also use Opera as a browser to reduce its size. By the way on popping splash forms/gui such as countdown to shutdown and creating save file you must make those forms invisible on taskbar not those popping on taskbar. and also make the gui layout more organized, consistent, and less clutter

LxPup by SFS now has versions to transform:
  • Slacko 5.5 (normal, Phat and Thin versions)
    Precise 5.5
    Upup-Precise 3.8.3
into a "version" of LxPup

Cheers

---Do you mean the new Lxpup 13.04? The ISO is the beta PAE version only. A non-PAE and the smaller size NOP have not yet been released.

The current version Lxpup 13.01, has a Full version w/ Libre Office and other applications and the standard version which has Gnumeric & Abiword and less/smaller applications.

I like everything about your project except LXDE. Are you going to build something around JWM as well? Or anything else that is super light on resources?

@natgab yes, but on its final release. I hope that make it smaller ISO file size and improve further its interface.

lxde vs jwm

#618 Post by Volhout »

Dear popov,

The main difference between Lxpup and it's base (Precise or Slacko) is that Jerome added LXDE (and other WM's).

If you enjoy JWM and ROX better, please use the standard puppy versions (i.e. Slacko 5.5).

Regards,

Volhout

What I have found out, is a fact that he made gslapt work pretty well, and I couldn't get it working for Slacko/PHATSlacko. Mainly I am using LXPup because of that.

Also in beginning I had fun running dual Window Manger setup with LXDE being main one, but after some time I found LXDE lacking responsiveness of JWM even on lightest setup.

Remastering LXPUP problem

#620 Post by mistfire »

I try to remaster the lxpup. I removed some builtin packages and replace with other packages. I Free up almost 30-40Mb size. but when I run the puppy remaster script instead of 160 or below Mb iso size (approx size of lxpup) that I expected, it bloats to 200+ Mb. Is there any method to remaster the lxpup to a smaller iso size?
