gtkdialog

#1 Post by danneauxs »

Installed Samba 3.5.6 just now and when it was finished it said I was missing dependency gtkdialog.
Same thing after installing Handbrake dvd ripper and some others I forget which right now.

EDIT: Actually everything I install with the PPM tells me this even some libraries I was missing for Handbrake popped this message up.

Is gtkdialog really missing, not being reported correctly or expecting a different version?

I'm running lupu 528 retro kernal: 2.6.33.2.

Sorry if this is a basic thing but I've been trying to get things working or set up the way I want for weeks now and I'm getting a bit worn out reading 200+ page threads for that one nugget I need and apprently I can't search worth a darn either in the forum search or wellminded.

TIA

Danneauxs- are you running this 528? Does PPM update OK?

Semme - Sorry wasn't thinking.
I'm running the windows install version from
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=61404

Also, I believe I misslabled it "retro" which is a different frugal install I have. I used the windows installer because it was easiest to make a dual boot, then I've been playing with about 4 frugal install of different puplets but the 528 lupu is my main version.

The programs seem to run fine so I don't know how the missing dependency is affecting anything. More of a mystery.

I updated PPM shortly after install which was only a week ago. I'll run update again just in case.

I think I'll try booting without a saved file and install one of the programs to see if I get the message then. Maybe I messed something up.
I looked in PPM for gtkdialog but only found a "precise" version.

Rule #1) PPM's not perfect. So long as Samba and everyone else load without incident- FORGET the messages.

Run: ldd /path/to/samba/executable.. Do we report any "not founds?"

Pfind: gtkdialog (then list >> export to text edit), what turns up?

Samba works fine - I'm logged into an XP share right now.

ldd /path/to/samba/executable.. reports no such file or directory

Pfind:
/root/.packages/builtin_files/gtkdialog2
/root/.packages/builtin_files/gtkdialog3
/root/.packages/gtkdialog-precise-0.8.4.files
/root/.pwidgets/pwidgets-exec_gtkdialog
/root/.pwidgets/tmp/pwidgets-exec_gtkdialog

Well, everything works so I guess I'll just Ignore the message.

Thanks

Samba- good.

ldd? I don't run Samba so don't know the executables name.

Guessing I'll say >> /usr/bin/smbcontrol?

Now.. re-Pfind gtkdialog, this time searching *system*

My bad, I'll have to look for the executable as I try to avoid command line as much as possible.

Gone most of the weekend and working extra shifts this week. I appreciate yours help and dind't want you to think I didn't or wandered off. Just swamped and might not get to mess with puppy for a few days. I'm playing with several puplets and having issues in all.
I know puppy works for lots of people but I'm getting old and the learning curve is getting steeper for me personally even though puppy is getting easier to use. When doing something basic takes an hour of research eventually you run out of time.

I'll be back in a few days one way or the other.

Thanks

Prob a moot point now. Got a new"er" laptop and after installing puppy didn't have those issues so I'm fine.

Thanks
