Hello etienne2000,

I had success, getting my microphone to work with xvidcap, by changing the default input device, from /dev/dsp, to /dev/audio. Not sure whether this will be the same for your device though?

Edit: Another thought, if you right-click the volume icon, bottom right-hand corner of the desktop, and select "Full Window", is Capture showing, and is it at maximum volume?

Xvidcap 1.1.6 working well in Puppy 4.3.1 and
Xvidcap 1.1.7 working well in Lupu 5.2.5

The only Retrovol or (alsa mixer) settings necessary.

I wasn't using a mic or making a video for upload.
I did capture a 613mb mpeg file of this concert:

http://video.pbs.org/video/1487911131/

Working in Wary 512 now.
10fps in all 3.

edit:

Stopped working with Wary again.

For some reason, all my screencasts return with only around 50% capture success ratio.
Any ideas?

With slacko colours are garbled, not with other distros. It's very short video, only to show that you can comment the video

PostPosted: Sun 09 Sep 2012, 04:34    Post subject: Making tutos with XVIDCAP : sure very usefull
Subject description: There is a lot of tutos but where to find them ?

I have posted bout XVIDCAP in 'multimedia' category. I make tutos for myself, more to remember how i have done something than to teach it.
Why russian XVICAP ?
Ubuntu has difficulties in using its xvidcap.
Xvidcap 1.1.6 often does not record voice.
Gtk record my desktop is boring, because there is a post syncro
XVIDCAP is very well, and often we comment after making the video. I use Precord for that. And i mixed images and sound with avidemux.
The result is light. Enough to my needs. Russian Xvidcap makes its job in all distros excepted Racy 5.3 JWM ( ok in RACY 2PDE)

Within Racy depandency openssh xdelta3 has to be added.

The only Retrovol or (alsa mixer) settings necessary.

Xvipcap 1.1.7 better everywhere excepted :
Slacko 5.3 / 5.3.1 ( washed colours)

complete the list, please

Be aware that your video can be read immediatly, so good as 'capture', his brother in law under Windows.

Xvidcap : the best tool. You can read your video immediatly.
Depending on the distros, you must choose betwen 1.1.7 (preferred) or 1.1.6.
To comment : change capture tool in alsamixer to 80% for correct recording of your nice voice.

Some Slackos get ugly colors with xvidcap. I succeded to correct that. But i dont remember How !
I have made for myself a lot of tutos on You Tube. The aim is to remember how to do difficult things, but also to show how proud i am of my distro !

Subject description: Wonderfull video capture !

Xvidcap generally works fine.
Best choices : use it with gnomeplayer installed
Download xvidcap from the russian Puppy ibiblio.org
Try first 1.1.7, if bad, then use 1.1.6 version.
Xvidcap is installed now on all of my distros. Rarely failed. Much better and lighter than record my desktop .

XVIDCAP sometimes gives you garbled colors. Change that with Avidemux with the color filter as shown in screenshot here below
