pemasu,

In Mick's PHATSlacko with kernel 3.8.2, I have the same problem described above in Upup Precise 3.8.2 (failure to update the send/receive data in /sys/class/net/eth0/statistics/).

However, your prior release of Upup Precise (kernel 3.7.2) works great on my system with the BCM57788 chipset and tg3 driver.

Pemasu, 3.8.2 looks good to me so far. Thanks! However, I get
the impression that the power management bug still lurks since
SNS didn't immediately connect when I tried without my "fix". Normally,
I get a connection on the first try with SNS. I can spend some time
trying to get more conclusive results if you wish.

Artsown. I think we are speaking of this:
iwconfig wlan0 power off

Yes....If you still need it, I would like to get confirmation. So that I could guide to that command if there seems to be need with troublesome wireless chips and drivers.

Pemasu I've confirmed that 3.8.2 has the wireless power
management bug. My "how to" on this is here:

http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=84266

I should add something to this. Turning off power management on
wlan0 may not have immediate effect. After placing the script
in /root/startup you should reboot puppy and then do the
first or initial connect.

Ok, I edited my "how to" on the wireless power management bug,
altering the procedure to say that a reboot should be done
after placing the script in /root/startup

Fresh manual frugal install on the old P4 test box. No problems....everything working well ootb.

For whatever reason every release with a 3.8.X kernel has a problem detecting and/or mounting flash drives on my older hardware (in particular my main Athlon XP box) but no such trouble on newer boxes.Or maybe it's a problem with AMD. Anyway...no problems on this box.

This is a problem with the current crop of precise puppy and its WOLF spins, does not occur in Ubuntu Precise.

Possibly related to some of these problems....... some broken drivers in the 3.8.x kernels was reported in the Slackware changelog of March 12...
ftp://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/slackware/slac ... ngeLog.txt
For this kernel update I decided to go with 3.7.10. Yeah, the 3.7 series
is EOL, but I've heard about some broken drivers in 3.8.x that make me
hesitate to push forward.

i checked the md5 is right, but when i run in virtualbox, i got this message.
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WNnVIdz3eZo/U ... /error.png
do the iso file corrupt?

Edited: Ok Pemasu, I link it now. Thank you, I realize now that the problem is the virtualbox, after I copied 3 files: vmlinuz, initrd.gz, and the .sfs into a folder, and I modified menu.lst. and this puppy walk without problem.
Thank you for this great puppy!

recobayu.
I know nothing about virtualboxes and virtual machines. For me...only way is that I get more reports of the succes or failure and also suggestions...if there is something wrong with kernel or base build.

These too wide pics give problems also...they screw the thread page.

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WNnVIdz3eZo/U ... /error.png

I suggest placing url link instead of img link so that the page will not be screwed.

Cheers.

Can't compile rts5220 driver in precise 3.8.2

#58 Post by Fabio T »

Hi Pemasu,
excuse me for this message but I can't compile rts5229 driver in Upup precise 3.8.2., that instead compiles it regularly in Upup 3.7.2 and 3.2.29.
I don't know why... perhaps I need something else?
I installed devx.sfs and kernel source.sfs, MAKE command works but...

I enclose source code for driver.

Can you tell me something about this?

P.S. thanks for upgrading wacom driver, my notebook thanks :-)

Fabio T. Supporting module is missing.
It needs this one in kernel config:
CONFIG_MFD_RTSX_PCI=m

I compile the missing supporting module and then rts5229 should compile...and it is already in kernel source. I can compile the kernel included one as module on same time.

I will be back soon.

Fabio T. Your missing module or compile problem finding has revealed more serious problem with multifunction, memory stick and sdhc cards. it seems I have missed some vital modules.
Compiling them afterwards is not possible. The compiled modules are not compatible, there is symbol errors which means they are not accepted by this kernel.
Okay. The missing modules are crucial enough that I will recompile the kernel and then I will create new build.

Now comes the question. Should I update to the 3.8.3 kernel. It has a lot fixes. For example radkys needed somewhat broken tg3 has been fixed in it straight and I suppose there as some other important fixes also.
I think I do the decision tomorrow. If someone has opinion or knowledge, the arena is all yours.
