I followed your instructions about creating the two partitions on an
SDHC card, I used my remaster dvd and when I copied the files that you
suggested it failed because it couldn't find the savefile that was
created on the f2fs partition.
I made a PHATslacko folder the copy the files from the dvd.
I tried a second time and this time I copied all the files on the
remastered dvd to the ext2 partition,(no folder) and ran grub2dos.
I booted the card in another pc and made a few changes,then shutdown
creating a savefile on the f2fs partition.
Turned the pc back on and booted from the card, it found the savefile
this time. | Thanks for that, I amended the instructions and updated the screen shot.

libreoffice on a stick Subject description: Help |
|
Help:
I tried twice to load to a stick and run Libreoffice.
First I used a 1g stick, then a 2g in case install was not complete, should be enough. I can run Libreoffice from the CD desktop icon. No hard drive. So boot should be clean. I get the sticks to boot, and most things to run. I get a message when I click on the icon on the desktop, file not found or no reference to defaultwordprocessor.
Any suggestions or can you duplicate the problem. Same for Calc of course.
Thanks.

Minnesota: Did you remember to copy the adrv_slacko_5.5.00.sfs from the ISO onto the flash drive?
I ran PHATSlacko on a flash drive with ISObooter and it worked fine.

qt4 and libre office |
|
Ran ootb on my i5 quad core/ATI HD5750 setup (cd start up with save file on hard disc).
Great, with only one small minor prob.
I don't like the size of the menu fonts in VLC, so went for qtconfig - not in the menu
system anywhere. Fixed by opening it's .desktop file and adding X-Desktop to Categories.
Desktop seemed a reasonable place to me.
Libre Office is great, but I do like to have a local help system. I did try to compile
LO myself a few days ago (in 5.4 - configured without java and a few other things, but
make crashed insisting on having java). As I have the help source file to include with
my compilation is there any way I can install/link it into PHS (phatslacko)?
edit
have now thrown in Stellarium 0.11.4 and Scribus 1.5 svn sfs's (both compiled in Slacko 5.4)
and both run fine - fast and problem free.
Many thanks for this one - I think I will be using it for a long time!

PHATSlacko - March 2013 Subject description: audacious 3.3.4 |
|
@01micko
I have your audacious 3.3.1 sfs in my PHATslacko remaster, I made pets of
audacious 3.3.4 a few days ago in another slacko 5.5 install so I just
installed audacious-3.3.4-i686.pet,audacious_DEV-3.3.4-i686.pet,
and audacious-plugins-3.3.4-i686.pet in PHATslacko and it's working
fine.
The Audacious 3.3.4 that I run in the other slacko 5.5 install won't
play mp3 files but 3.3.4 does in PHATslacko.
I made pets of 3.4 alpha1 as well but 3.3.4 is working so I'm going to
leave it at that.

Torrent thanks to aarf
PHATSlacko - 5.5 is FATSlacko renamed and updated, so not to confuse with FatDog. This puplet is designed to enhance your productivity at
work or at home. It's based directly on Slacko 5.5
Have fun! |
Hi Mick,
Would not THICKSlacko have been more self explaining ?

My experience was that the universal installer does NOT copy the adrive.sfs to the usb drive....I had to do it manually.
Another thing I noticed....the bootable USB drive I made was not readable by windows....which is really inconvenient, as I carry a USB drive with lots of portable windows applications, documents and severasl puppies with me.
As a work around, I moved the Phatslacko files into a seperate folder and added to my syslinux.cfg file so I can boot Phatslacko and still access the drive from windows.

I believe that problem is solved if you format to FAT32 instead of recommended Linux ext2.

Any other PhatSlacko users observe this??? |
|
There seems to be a problem with this distro's SAMBA.
Edit2: this problem seemingly is linked, somehow, to DNS/WINS registration. One of the Live PCs has magically appeared with its server name and workgroup names showing as well as a MASTER name (workgroup line) as well. Its information fields are filled when viewed from on all 3 PCs, while the other 2 PCs fields remain with empty fields no matter where the smbclient's query is run for them.. (SEE BELOW in "More Additional Information")
Edit1: Warning, this problem is showing up in FATDOG620 which also ships with a current SAMBA for system startup. (SEE BELOW in "Additonal findings", as well)
What is occurring is that the PC is being statted with SAMBA which doesn't display a hostname. And nothing appears to be working to get it to product its Netbios hostname. This is observed soon after FirstRun completes by pening a terminal and doing the following
Code: | # smbclient -U% -L localhost
Domain=[Workgroup] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 4.0.0]
Sharename Type Comment
--------- ---- -------
Dowbkiads Disk
IPC$ IPC IPC Service (Puppy Samba Server)
CUPS-PDF Printer CUPS-PDF
Domain=[Workgroup] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 4.0.0]
Server Comment
--------- -------
Workgroup Master
--------- -------
# | Am wondering if the latest security releases of SAMBA will alleviate this problem in PhatSlacko.
Confusing, is my KVM virtual machine version is NOT exhibiting this problem for it sees the hostname and the workgroup name appropriately displayed. But the problem is found on the Live booted laptop and desktops, thus far.
Further, doing a save-session and reboot, the same problem exist on reboot as before....And retrying with a boot where "pfix=ram" yields same error.
The PC's desktop start procedure can be observed by the steps outlined in this Beginner's Guide document.
Additional findings
This exist on my current FATDOG-620 system as well running SAMBA 3.6.12. This may NOT be a simple SAMBA version problem but maybe something else in the distros.
Code: | # smbd restart
# smbclient -U% -L localhost

Cannot explain why this suddenly has info and others dont. This view is run from FATDOG looking out at one of the PhatSlacko's on the LAN. That PC's server and workgroup fields were shown like the above consoles show.

# | This PC had blank fields when viewed 1 hour ago when trying to get to the bottom of this problem. But, the other PCs have same blank fields as before.
in case anyone is wondering, Iff the IP addresses are used, all shared resources can be accessed.
Any ideas

@ally.. good gvfs fixed it.
<ot>
simargl is just peeved because of this. Never mind his bagging of puppy in general and alienating his major adrive developer.
He'll either get over it one day or fight to the bitter end. Doesn't matter.
