Puppy KDrive and OpenGL

#1 Post by archwndas »

Dear Puppy Gurus,
I am wondering whether or not KDrive supports OpenGL. If yes how can
I activate it? If no, then could it be added manually? If no and no, and my only option for OpenGL support is X11 then how much heavier as it
concerns memory and disk footprint, is X11 over KDrive?

======================
and one questions for the experts
======================
Moreover, suppose I have a tiny Linux base system, which
has everything I need to boot my PC but nothing more; for instance it
lacks X and other X related stuff. What is the process of installing KDrive
there? Is that process thouroughly described in Puppy-T2 HowTo? If not,
then could somebody give me a link which will guide me through the
installation of KDrive or X11 in my tiny little Linux system?

Thank you guys, in advance!
Archwn.

The full Xorg is a lot heavier than the Xvesa (Kdrive as it used to be called) server. But if your hardware won't run Xorg, then it'll choke on OpenGL even if you find an OpenGL driver that'll run on the Xvesa server.

If you can tell us what you need to achieve, there may be other ways to the same result though(?)

I just want to install X11 on a minimal Linux compiled against uClibc. I
followed the tutorial at:

http://gentoo-wiki.com/TinyGentoo

This HowTo However doesn't explain how to set up X. I hoped that Puppy
Gurus know about that stuff since puppy does a lot more than installing X.
So what is the best way to go? Install X11 or Kdrive? If X11 then howTO
install it in a uClibc environment? if KDrive then again How to install it
in a uClibc environment?

Thanks!
