I was just reading up on the Truecrypt bootloader and the ability to encrypt the entire partition on which an operating system resides, but it appears to be windows-only (not quite sure.)

Is there any way to use this unreasonably powerful encryption to protect your USB drive that you have Puppy installed on?

I know how to edit initrd.gz, if that makes any difference...

Why would you even want to encrypt the whole thing? All you really need to protect is your Save file. Everything else is freely available to anyone who cares to download the Puppy iso you're using.

Yeah, just encrypting the save file would be fine.

What I want to know is if it would it be possible to use Truecrypt's immensely powerful encryption (as opposed to Puppy's encryption) to protect the save file.

I'm just beginning to get an idea... perhaps install a cli-only version of TC into the initrd.gz file, then add a command to the init script to decrypt the encrypted files... not quite sure if this would work, or how exactly to pull it off... That's where I need the help.

I found them after looking through the Security section of the forum for about one minute. Smile

I'm pretty sure there are other threads that discuss how to encrypt a Save file, but I didn't see any. Try the How-To section.

Truecrypt requires a slight tweak to operate as it should in puppy ...
