VSP Puppies

Hello!

I want to introduce some of my VSP Puppies.

VSP Puppies are usual Puppies like Lucid, Slacko and others. But these Puppies are very special, because they include some useful tools from LazY Puppy - like the SFS P.L.U.S. and the VarioMenu. There might be one day where I can not use the LazY Puppy any longer, because of newer Hardware etc.pp. To not to loose the comfort of LazY Puppy, I decided to modify its best features to be able just to install them into another Puppy, and: ---> GO!

The VSP Puppies presented in here, are the results of this Work.



1.) SFS P.L.U.S.

The SFS P.L.U.S. included in these VSP Puppies is a more forwarded Version compared to the current Version 2.0.5 (Forum Utilities) on the Forum.

It includes the SFS P.L.U.S. Remaster Suite.

The SFS P.L.U.S. Remaster Suite is not like the LazY Puppy LazY Remaster Suite. It's especially created for the use to remaster the OS after creating and adding SFS P.L.U.S. RunScripts. It will keep only the changes on the RunScripts Directory, the Menu Entries (.desktop files), the Icons and some Desktop stuff like 'PuppyPin'.

So, you can create RunScripts, adding Icons (Buttons) to the Desktop and then doing a Remaster. Everything is executed without the need for the User to act and/or to edit Files or Directories manually. Check it out!



2.) VarioMenu

VarioMenu originally is created by German User der-schutzhund (with some help from SFR - thanks for the Help). I have made an extended Version of VarioMenu and created a GUI as well, to set up easily the VarioMenu and the WBar. VarioMenu uses the Wbar in a different way. Usually the User runs Applications from Docks like Wbar etc. But in this case the Wbar doesn't execute Applications. It uses its Icons as categories and does change the Icon Selection on the Desktop, when clicked on a Wbar Icon.

The User just selects a category, adds Icons to the Desktop, and after changing to another category, the Icons will be automatically saved for the previous category.

Not much work to do to configure the VarioMenu.



3.) Additions to the Basic OS:

I will try to build each VSP Puppy with a standard list of applications and RunScripts - if possible.

Current definition of applications is:

- AppBuilder_Template-1.0.pet - builds an out of the box usable GtkDialog-GUI from a Template

- Design-Switcher-0.3.pet - switch Wallpaper, Icon-Sets, GtkDialog-Theme and Openbox-Theme from a single GUI
- Dir-to-ISO-2.0.pet - makes bootable ISOs by right-click (if bootloader is in the directory)

- Edit-Initrdgz-1.4.pet - GUI to edit the initrd.gz file
- Edit-Initrdgz-rtc-0.3.pet - Right-Click tool to edit the initrd.gz file
- Edit-SFS-2.1-lp2.pet - DE localized Version

- GtkDialog-0.8.pet - GtkDialog4 (0.8.0)
- gtk-theme-switch_2.1.0-2_i386.pet - backend for Design Switcher

- LazY-DAC-1.0.pet - Default Applications Changer (extended Version)
- LazY-IcoT.pet - create icon templates from directory
- LazY-IDR-0.1.pet - duplicate and resize icons from directory
- LazY-MISs-0.1.pet - create icon sets from directory
- LazY_Remaster_SFS_PLUS-0.8.pet - Remaster the OS for SFS P.L.U.S.
- LazY-TrON-1.0.pet - based on ThreadGet and ThreadSaver

- NewAudioSounds-1.0.pet - LazY Puppy audio sounds

- Package-ReCreate-rtc-1.0.3.pet - re-create package from installed package
- PaDS-1.0.2.pet - merge .pet and .deb into a single sfs
- PicScale-0.1b.pet - resize images (jog, png)
- PNG2JPG_Convert-0.1.pet - .png to .jpg image converter

- Rename-RoxMenu-Entries-1.0.pet - as the name is saying
- RSHsDepCheck-0.7.pet - check dependencies with right-click

- SFS_Load-1.9.6.pet - latest build of sfs_load
- SFS_PLUS-2.0.7.pet - the pearl (8-bit quoted)
- SFS-SimpleScript-1.0.3.pet - again the pearl (8-bit quoted)
- Shutdown-GUI-1.0.pet - shutdown-GUI from LazY Puppy (without its special save or not to save to save file functions)
- SoundSwitcher-0.1.pet - switches system sounds

- VarioMenuGUI-1.0.9-1.4x.pet - as described above

- WBarLP2-1.3.3.pet - LazY Puppy modified version
- WMCtrl-1.07-i486-LazY-Lucid.pet - old, but useful

- XDoTool-2.20110530.1-3.pet - really useful on doing this here VarioMenu setup

- don570s right-click-tools - a ot of useful tools
- gtkdialog4 (0.8.0, if not already installed)

These VSP Puppies are now renamed at remastering. I did decide to rename these Puppies to prevent not to have too many puppies using equal names.

Each of these Puppies comes by default with 30 activated desktops (Openbox). Dektop 1, 2, 3, 4 and Desktop 5 are independent, which means they do not use a VarioMenu-Category. Desktops 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 and Desktop 19 are NOT independent. They use a VarioMenu-Category, which means switching a VarioMenu-Categorie will switch the Openbox Desktop also and switching the Openbox Desktop will switch also the VarioMenu-Category. They also predefined to categories like Graphics, Multimedia etc. Desktop 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 and Desktop 30 are not predefined to VarioMenu Categories. These Desktop/VarioMenu Categories are free for the users need.

But predefined VarioMenu Categories can be changed though.

All Desktops can be activated by Keyboard Shortcuts. It is used: Alt, Ctrl-Alt and Ctrl-Alt-Shift. Switching the Opembox Desktop by Openbox Menu will not switch the VarioMenu-Category. Here are the definitions (will be standard in all VSP Puppies) for the Keyboardshortcuts in use:

None of these Desktops has predefined any icons available. As described above, its easy for the user, to set up a desktop for the users need.

Checking it out now! First impressions; awesome.

Manual frugal install, Celeron M, 256RAM.

Everything working out of the box/ wi-fi etc/ beautiful desktop.... (now I just have to figure out how to use it.)

Thank you for checking it out. The credits goes to playdayz, because of the wonderful THD. I've just made some additions of my SFS P.L.U.S. applications and some useful tools like don570s right-click-tool collection..

It's just a first step to a full featured ready to use by installing it V(arioMenu) S(FS) P(.L.U.S.) Puppy-Builder/Updater.

I would like to see some screenshots, if you have anything set up.

One special Tip:

If you do remaster with the SFS P.L.U.S. Remaster Suite and want to add some files outside the regularly updated directories, go to /root/my-roxapps/SFS-PLUS-Remaster and create an empty file named firstinstall. If then running SFS P.L.U.S. Remaster Suite, it will give some special options. Just activate option 'Don570's Right-Click Tools added' and it will keep everything in:

/usr/bin
/usr/doc
/usr/local
/usr/sbin
/usr/share

This is my SFS P.L.U.S. Remaster Suite development back door! :)

Hi, thanks. I'm not quite at the remastering level yet, more of a tinkering at the edges sort of user, but I've been using it for general use since I downloaded it without any problems. It does everything I need, but I'm not a very demanding user. I'll get more adventurous as I continue to use it.

My Gods! you still have another puplet.
I'm not guarantee to make any report of this one. :-(
My people are somebody who will move to crowded city because I have promised them the refuge in the big UFO station.
Now I'd found at least 5 aliens who live in Thailand. They are from Triangular constellation.

Yes, and I do have some more (unfinished working stage). The Idea on this is explained at the first post. Short story: I want to rescue the main LazY Puppy features for newer Puppies (if needed someday to have newer hardware and the LazY Puppy would not run any longer).

I did started this with 38 .pet files to install and then editing a lot of stuff manually. By now I'm down to 7 .pet files, most of manually edited stuff is now executed by the pinstall scripts of the 7 .pet files - like the openbox desktops, its Keyboard shortcuts, new menu category etc.pp. Actually I do have to edit only the desktop entries of the openbox menu (rename to German and/or English language) and to insert the new menu category into the fbpanel.

I hope that I can reach a state of just installing a single .pet file and the OS would remaster itself after this - one day...

Lieber Herr RSH;
Perhaps I make you misunderstand. Let me explain.
I have seen a lot of your works (mostly scripts) and your postings in this forum. I guess that those postings make you stay online many hours per day. Those scripts, sfs files, bug fixes make you works many hours a day. Compare to other developers who have released many Puppies, you are among the top contributors of this forum even with only one Puppy. And if you're going to release another Puppy I should range you #1 developer.
Though I experience about 10 Puppies now, due to my occupation which limits me to do others, I only select to post the one that meet my criteria. So I'm not sure to test VSP. Anyway I try.555555555555

- -After booting was completed it showed Openbox error.
- -The Personal Setting of VSP is the same with LP2.0.2-0.0.5 but different from Osiris which has US keyboard as default. I found many Puppies use another GUI which complete Country listing. It's faster and reduces the number of clicking.
- - All links in Wbar are missing except the closed button.
- - WM switching does not work, I had to switch manually.
- - Many beautiful wallpapers, but why the sea is Soldier............? And Nathan has no bug. But LP2.05 still get it.

Some idea, will it be better if someone clicks pet file, it will not ask to choose Making SFS File or install? The user can make the pet file from the menu.

No, they are not missing. The Icons in Wbar don't run programs. They switch VarioMenu Groups, which means Icon Groups on Desktop.

Try this:

Move some Icons onto Desktop, click another Icon in Wbar, move some Icons onto Desktop, click another Icon in Wbar - then, switch between those two Wbar Icons when you've moved Icons onto Desktop.

How's that? :) :lol: 8)
