Manual for installing python apps in puppy wanted

#1 Post by Dromeno »

The promise of lucid (or precize) puppy is that one can use the Ubuntu repos right? Well, the past year I have tried to install several python programs in lucid puppy from those repos and I learned that it was not that easy. To name a few:

Gourmet (recipe manager)
Griffith (movie manager)
Nicotine (soulseek client)
qTorrent (bittorrent client)
Specto (website monitor)
Taskmanager (enhanced to-do list app)

For all of those exist .deb files in Ubuntu repos but none of those work when installed in lucid puppy by clicking on the deb file.

So what I would like to have is a simple how2 manual on adding these debs in lucid puppy. Many of the most beautiful apps are pythons and puppy can not handle them well yet.

start the program from console and see what is missing.

http://packages.ubuntu.com/lucid/gourmet (or any other)
will show you what is needed (for gourmet) and lets you install any missing .deb

simple! Isn't it ?

Not that simple

If it only was that simple! Take gourmet for instance (in lucid puppy 528005). Install every dependency then terminal reports that glade is not installed, but it is.

Covers in griffith

Gourmet (recipe manager)
Griffith (movie manager)
Nicotine (soulseek client)
qTorrent (bittorrent client)
Specto (website monitor)
Taskmanager (enhanced to-do list app)

Griffith run now perfectly, download it from PPM, but install in a second time the deb package, not the dependencies, to be able to find information on the web. However in some puppies cover is found, in xenialpup no.. Python could be the reason, perhaps. I don't Know..

Nicotine : feed back soon
Puppy can use applications after being installed. Which ones, that is my goal to check around what works, what does not...

Perhaps Madam will have some interest in recipes

Gourmet works well, apparently, but is not for our Puppy Linux users. Perhaps Madam will have some interest in recipes, but she has fulfill it, because it's not my cup of tea :)
