Konqeror: 3-in-1 Browser Subject description: Web Browser/File Manager/Archiver, Puppy could use this |
|
I've been glued to my netbook. It is still only running Slackware 14.0 though. I've began like 10-20 minutes ago truly playing around with Konqeror's features. Konqeror is a KDE app that is a:
-Web Browser: KHTML, Full Netscape/Mozilla Plugin Support (Flash, Java, etc.), Pop-up blocker and AdBlocker built-in, and etc. But no HTML5 though.
-File Manager: Browse files, see hidden files, etc.
-File Archiver: Click on an archive and browse/extract files (also as a right-click option too).
Also I can do tabbed Web/File Browsing
ex: Google in tab 1, folder "/root" in tab 2, etc.
I haven't looked through any other features yet.
I think that puppy would like to have it available to him/her.

It has been available for Puppy for quite some years, in different guises.
The earliest I can remember was in KDE-355_mini.sfs by MU.
There are other KDEs for Puppy which have it.
It has a lot of dependencies.
Happy searching.

John Biles includes it as standard in his "Teenpup" and "Legacy" series of puplets. There were a few series-4 puplets devoted to KDE (umm, KDEpup springs to mind) but I recommend you search out dejan555's "minimal-KDE libraries" pet thread. I'm wondering myself if anyone would be interested in developing a "Trinity" pet for Puppy (http://www.trinitydesktop.org/) since Iguleder's sterling efforts (http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=581787#581787)- though I see that the hassles with KDE4.x seem to have been mostly solved, Trinity still *might* provide a "lite" alternative. Just checked to see whether other browsers have file manager capabilities, and it seems to be a polarising issue for users (e.g., see here http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=548051). Dunno. So many browsers/WM's, so little time...
