Email an ISO via gmail

#1 Post by DC »

Hi,
I've just been reading about Google allowing 10gig file attachments with emails.

Then I thought does downloading a email with ISO attached differ from just downloading a ISO from a bandwidth point of view?

If you could have a link that repeat sends a email that's already in the email directory in the cloud.
i.e. send a email once then repeat sends just come from the email server.

benefit - no download server required, my email downloads faster than most servers
cons - relying on Google mail

One caveat, however, is that the new features are inexplicably compatible only with Gmail’s new compose functionality. So keep that in mind.

Alternatively you could just email anyone (even if they don't have Gmail) a link to your ISO file on a Google drive.

[ I think this in essence is what Google are doing , just internally.
They're not transmitting GBs of data attached to each email, just attaching a link to download that data ]

But how trusting are you to give your email address to someone for sending or receiving that ISO as an attachment?

You might want to read this white paper.

As Barkin mentioned, Google's offering is about providing a link to Google Drive, within Gmail, so I don't think it is much different from data file host or dropbox or other download storage sites.
