SORT OF SOLVED - probably a 1-off aberration

#421 Post by peebee »

OOOPS!!

Just had LxPup crash on me.....

I was transferring 2 files from usb stick to hdd.

Stick mounted OK - opened 2 tabs in pcmanfm - cut the files from the stick with ctrl-x - changed to the hdd tab - copied the files with ctrl-v

then clicked the unmount arrow thingy next to sdb1.....

BANG - crash!

On reboot, all was OK - and the files had been copied correctly.

I'll try later to duplicate on a pfix=ram run of lxpup as I don't want to mess up my savefile.

- LATER - couldn't duplicate this problem.....

EVEN LATER - may just have been a stick problem as I had to reformat it as it was stuck in read-only mode - but that also might have been a consequence of the crash - who knows....

Cheers

Hello !

Thanks for you report.
I have a good new ! The next Lxpup will have "apt-get", "aptitude", and Synaptic with all precise's PPA.
Actually Apt and others work perfectly ! I can install, remove, add repos etc...
To test, I installed on a fresh Lxpup:
-Mate 1.4.2
-Firefox
-Thunderbird
-Xfce
-Vlc
-Libreoffice...
Mate is really really fast !
Issues for now: Only some libs ( Apt thinks some libs are already installed ). But easily installable with Synaptic.

Peebee, thanks for your advice and your .pet package ! Nice work. For appearance, I know it can be ogg for some person, I wanted to be original a bit. :)
Could you try new LibreOffice please ? It's a .pet package now.

Sorry for your problem, but I'm glad to see you don't lost data. Uuuf ! :D

Thanks all, yours advices, really, make me happy ! :D

Thanks Geoffrey for yours tips.

How easy is it to get the panel to stick to the right hand side of the screen, instead of the left? And is it possible to move the applications/menu/task bar to the bottom of the screen? thx.

Jejy69,

Good news! Look forward to the next Lxpup.

Next to Lxde, I actually love Mate Gnome.

Hope you will not forget to make the non pae version.

Thanks! Wish you success and a bright future!

Hi greengeek

As easy as:

Right click on the panel and go into Panel -> Panel settings

Thanks Peebee, that's exactly how I like my desktop to be now - browsers and word processors start at the top left (just like reading a book...) and the control functions are off to the right and bottom of screen (where they don't interfere with what I'm reading). Works well for me on my smallish screens.

lxpup and video thumbnails

#430 Post by metaldog »

hi all

just following up on my prev. post. i got video thumbs. yay.
i left lxpup to one side and grabbed exprimo pup as its squeeze based. i then ran thunar on my existing debian squeeze with CDE, which traces opened libraries etc. Grabbing the libs and copying them straight into exp pup is doing the trick nicely at the moment.
hacked up thunar (see pic) to offer a different message from 'root warning'. pic shows vobs and MP4/flash working. only type missing so far is realmedia.

im sure anyone using ubuntu precise can use the same nasty hack on lxpup.
im off to the exprimo pup thread now to hassle them.

cheers

Jejy69,

Your next release of Lxpup sounds interesting! BTW, Barry K has released precise 5.4.2 so i am supposing that your next Lxpup will be based on the new precise 5.4.2.

I am sending this message using Lxpup retro 11.12 which runs very well in my netbook. I like the lastest Lxpup but maybe psychologically, I feel the non pae is faster and more responsive for my netbook.

I have not installed so many softwares (just smplayer, chrome, SCIM Japanese input, notecase pro, fotoxx, later will try wine, softmaker office, libreoffice, skype, treepad, photofiltre, bleachbit, google earth and some games) yet so I am not able to discover any instability in a precise 5.4.1 based lxpup. But since there is a need for precise 5.4.2, I suppose that the precise 5.4.2. will be more stable version to use on a long term basis.

Jejy69, est-ce en utilisant Thunar? La raison pour laquelle je demande, c'est qu'il est possible d'enlever le "en tant que root" 'avertissement en modifiant le code source avant la compilation du module Thunar.

Hello...

elroy, thanks you, I know, but I used "apt-get install xfce" because I test Synaptic under Lxpup.
Packages come from Ubuntu precise's ppa.

Cheers, :)

Hi Jejy69,

Merry Christmas to you 2012!

I started using Lxpup12:12 and it is very fast and snappy on my netbook. It is better than the previous version. And I am using "Mate" as window manager and wow, it looks like cinnamon.

Some people reported that the PAE version causes more heat to the netbook than the non - PAE version. I don't know if that is true. Anyway, the Lxpup 12:12 is running very well.

Wish you a wonderful time this Christmas and also for the coming year ahead!
