And numerous bug fixes.

Changes from 610-beta:

* Removed exiftool not installed message from Fotoxx.
Bug fix:
* Multisession: unable to save session using Save session dialog.

As always, please use a new savefile. Fatdog64 has very little in common with other Puppies. If you're not familiar with Fatdog64-600 boot options please see the FAQs here:

http://distro.ibiblio.org/fatdog/web/

The iso and everything else can be found from the link above. Keep in mind that if a pet package has dependencies those are only resolved when installed using the package manager.

Broadcom wireless users, be aware that the proprietary driver is included but not used by default. If you need the proprietary driver, open the Control panel and go to the System tab. Then click on Manage Servers and Services. Click on BC-wl and then Start and Enable.

If you use the ATI Fglrx or Nvidia video drivers make sure you get the new ones.

Thanks to all those who have tested. Besides the regular Fatdog64 repo for packages, there are also these:

http://www.smokey01.com/software/Fatdog64-600/

EDIT: If ibiblio is slow, try ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/metalab/distributions/fatdog/

- SR Iron browser 23.0.1300 SFS (runs as spot)
- Freepascal and Lazarus IDE SFS
- Nvidia drivers: There are two versions, 302 for older cards and 310 for newer cards. I have only tested 302 as my card is no longer supported in 310.

IMPORTANT: Bug http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=676158#676158: other Linuxes may not boot if Fatdog touches its partition. Fix is attached here.

EDIT: Remove outdated info, add important bug note and fix.

Hi Kirk:
Jamebond:

Installed 610 to hard-drive with boot from usb.

Everything working well except I'm back with my old BC-WL driver problem.

I go to manage servers and services click on start and enable.
BC-WL does not start or show up on the network wizard.

BC-WL is set to start at boot ok but does not start after reboot

Any help would be appreciated.

irishrm.

irishrm,

Open a terminal and type or paste this in:

Code:
lsmod > /root/lsmod.txt

ls -l /etc/init.d > /root/ls.txt

lspci > /root/lspci.txt

dmesg > /root/dmesg.txt

And then attach the four text files to this thread.

Both work nicely, so far. Will mount on the troublesome SiS/ECS 754 over the weekend.
Initial scan for wifi times-out too quickly, hit retry as soon as it appears and even the Cohiba guy works.Might be worth doubling T.O. at next iteration.
More.

Open a terminal and try this:

Code:
modprobe lib80211

insmod /usr/share/broadcom/wl.ko

after that, right click on wpa_gui in the tray and select Restart Connection. Then see if you can connect.

I do see a problem with the BC-wl script and your wifi chip's pcid. Just looking at the wl module source I don't see your pcid listed. If it still doesn't work after trying the above, let me know and I'll add your pcid to the wl source and recompile it.

kirk:

When I try "insmod /usr/share/broadcom/wl.ko" in the terminal I get "no such file or directory"

However when I manually trace path "usr/share/broadcom" wl.ko is in the broadcom folder.

Obviously no connection.

You had to help me out on 600 as well but that's going fine.

Thanks for your patience.

irishrm,

That should work. Try copying this:

insmod /usr/share/broadcom/wl.ko

and paste it into a terminal. Use shift-insert to paste into a terminal. Remember to first modprobe lib80211

Kirk:

This is what I get when I copy and paste.
Tried typing it in as well same result.

insmod /usr/share/broadcom/wl.ko

insmod: error inserting '/usr/share/broadcom/wl.ko': -1 Unknown symbol in module

sorry for being a nuisance.

irishrm.

edit:
hold forgot modprobe

edit 2:
Did modprobe.
result shows the same error.

irishrm,

Make sure you modprobe lib80211 first or you'll get that error. Do in this order:

Code:
modprobe lib80211

insmod /usr/share/broadcom/wl.ko

I did exactly as you instructed a number of times and I also tried typing in the code a number of times but I still get the error described in my previous post.

Can I be that bad with the terminal?

I don't want you to waste your time with this.
I still have 600 working well.

irishrm, after the errors, can you please do a "dmesg" on the terminal and cut and paste the last few lines and post them here?

Also, are you by accident using savefile from previous Fatdog?

If you don't mind trying again, please type "depmod" first before "modprobe lib80211" and "insmod /usr/share/broadcom/wl.ko" for the last time and then if you still have problems, please post the "dmesg" output as above.

I don't doubt that you typed everything correctly. May be there is something weird on your machine or settings - broadcom chips have always been tricky, the dmesg output may reveal what it is. I did what kirk said and the wl module loaded although the machine I'm running on doesn't have broadcom.

cheers!

EDIT: Typo.

I just tested on a machine with a Broadcom chip. The wl module works. I think you might have an old save file too. You can try booting with savefile=none on the kernel line and then try again.
