Spotify client for Tahrpup 6 & Slacko 5.7

#1 Post by tempestuous »

Here is the official Linux Spotify client.
UPDATE Aug 19 2015 - now at version 0.9.4.183.

Under Linux one of the dependencies is Qt4, which Tahrpup 6.x already contains.
So for Tahrpup 6.x you only need to download and install these 2 dotpets -

http://www.smokey01.com/tempestuous/spo ... .4.183.pet
http://www.smokey01.com/tempestuous/gst ... .10.35.pet

Then you can launch the program from - Menu > Multimedia > Spotify
or you can launch it manually from the commandline -

Code: Select all

spotify
which will display any errors.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For Slacko 5.7.x you require three additional packages:

1. Qt4. Go to -
Menu > Setup > Sfs Manager download and install sfs files
and select "Qt 4.8.2"

2. GConf. Go to -
Menu > Setup > Puppy Package Manager
In the "Repositories" window, select "slackware-14.0"
then in the "Find" window type "GConf" then "Go"
On the right side the result will be "GConf-3.2.5"
Select it and proceed with the installation.

3. a dotpet which creates links for Spotify to find the Firefox libraries in Slacko. Download -
http://www.smokey01.com/tempestuous/spo ... irefox.pet
then make sure that Firefox is NOT running, before installing this dotpet.

Finally, reboot and you will then be able to launch Spotify from - Menu > Multimedia > Spotify

You can update Firefox if you wish (use the Puppy Package Manager)
but Spotify should work OK with Slacko's older version of Firefox.

Thanks indeed would be cool to get it to work.
Would it be difficult to change so it works for Lupu 528-005?
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though

If you want a desktop icon for Spotify, use ROX to navigate to /opt/spotify/spotify-client/
and drag the "spotify" file to the desktop. Right-click the new desktop icon, and select "Set Icon..."
Now use ROX to navigate to /usr/local/lib/X11/pixmaps/
and drag "spotify48.png" into the icon window. Done.

Yay! Thanks
I have to try that one too then.
The one for Slacko did work well.
So much appreciated.

Edit tried to install spotify following instructions above
for Lucid 528 but gives this error.
sh-4.1# spotify
spotify: error while loading shared libraries: libQtGui.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
sh-4.1#

Maybe I have to start the QT think first before
executing spotify? I give that a try and report back
if it succeeds.

I guess I need this one then
libQtGui.so.4 from where?
where to put it? would that work
Sure I can use slacko instead :)
No big deal. I am only used to Lucid
due to to it has Bacon Recorder
and I like that one.
it

Using an additional pet XVD or similar name
I got screeny to work on slacko
the file is too big so thanks for resizing it I delete my version
now that your version looks better.

Has anyone else got this package running successully in a distro?

Tried the Dpup a while ago and it never worked, and this package locks up the three headed dog puppy, so much so that I have to pull the battery out to get it to shut down!

Been running spotify well in wine, but would be good to have a puppy native package.

Really annoying though, that the adverts nearly blow the speakers compared to the actual music! Don't know why they expect the listeners to rig up a hardware limiter to preserve your sanity, (unless you really love those shouty type ****heads extolling the virtues of soap powder etc). :)

I have created spotify for Precise Puppy. I tested it in Upup Precise and it works. You need qt libs sfs and spotify sfs from upup repo. And Precise Puppy or Upup Precise.

To get rid of annoying adverts. You just need to upgrade your Spotify account to the Premium version. It costs of course.

Worked good in Puppy Slacko for me.
I tried Upup Precise now when Pemasu
recommend it. This time I did get it going.

I loaded both the sfs that he recommend above.
I used the precise 5 4 x 4 iso I made a save file
before I tested to load the QT and spotify sfs
after rebooting I sfs loaded these two
and spotify started right away.

Thanks for providing these.

Ok thanks for the tips.
What's the difference between UPup Precise+Precise?
I can't keep up with all these distros :)

Ok Pemasu, thanks, tried the above as well as the first files, (but with Precise) and it locks up the computer again. I have had trouble with QT in the past, even pets so it's beyond my logic for now.

Glad it works for you Nooby.

Just to be clear, the Spotify package I contributed here is for Slacko 5.3.x
and as nooby has confirmed, Spotify is tried-and-tested in this environment.

I also suggested a combination of packages which should work in Lucid Puppy (which includes Three-Headed Dog) but in this environment it appears to be unstable.

pemasu has now packaged a version for Precise, and that's great ...

... but if this application is important to you, it makes a lot of sense to use the version of Puppy which is known to work!!

Bonsoir,
@pemasu
I have created spotify for Precise Puppy. I tested it in Upup Precise and it works. You need qt libs sfs and spotify sfs from upup repo. And Precise Puppy or Upup Precise.
I am running Puppy Precise 5.4.3. I loaded the 2 sfs and got:

Code: Select all

Cannot connect to server socket err = No such file or directory
What's going wrong?

Thank you.

Cordialement.

Hello
Did anybody make it work for newest precise puppy 5.7.1 ? I have loaded two sfs packages from http://www.smokey01.com/pemasu/pet_packages-upup/ (spotify client and gt4.8.2) but it doesn't work at all. When I press spotify in menu nothing happens! Plz help

I have now found that libplc4.so.0d and libnspr4.s0.0d are missing - how to install them on puppy ?

Bonjour,
You can try this:
Install first qt-4.8.0-libs-essentials and qt-4.8.0-webkit-phonon-gstreamer-opengl  from this page
... then Spotify  from this page

Cordialement.

Install first qt-4.8.0-libs-essentials and qt-4.8.0-webkit-phonon-gstreamer-opengl
I have installed it and there is the same problem - when I press at spotify in menu, nothing happens. I have tried run it from console and I get such a error:
"error while loading shared libraries: libgstapp-0.10.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"

I have also tried in console command "ldd /usr/bin/spotify" and I get that few libraries are missing:
libgstapp-0.10.so.0
libgstpbutils-0.10.so.0
libgstvideo-0.10.so.0
libgstbase-0.10.so.0
libgstreamer-0.10.so.0
and also;
libplc4.so.0d
libnspr4.so.0d

When I was using those gt and spotify sfs files from forum only libplc4.so.0d and libnspr4.so.0d were missing.

I think you should install libgstreamer-plugins-base0.10-0_0.10.36 and libgstreamer0.10-0_0.10.36 from PPM.

[EDIT]: As attached file one of the 2 missing libs.
libnspr4.so.0d is not present on my system and Spotify works well.

Cordialement.

I have installed all of it, including libplc4, but still there is one missing (libnspr4.so.0d) and it will not start with out it. Where can I find libnspr4.so.0d?
By the way what puppy linux version do you have ?
