Lighthouse64

#1 Post by mrbulldog »

specs:
i7-3770k
asus p8z77-v pro
intel 520 120gb ssd
16gb ram

I would love to see lighthouse boot on this machine.
No available boot options for video display worked for me
There is obviously no video driver

All other puppies boot on that machine.
Flickering vertical lines is the best I can get with lighthouse.
Trying to drop to shell no good. :?

possible method of getting to the LH64 desktop

#2 Post by gcmartin »

From all appearances, this is a fabulous piece of machinery you have. Wish I had one.

You might try entering at Boot Splash screen when booting the PC
  1. F2 key
  2. then after viewing screen, type

    Code: Select all

    lhp pfix=ram,nosfs,pure64 nomodeset
These boot parameters "may" get you a desktop to work from.

You also mentioned that you have booted other PUPs on this. If so, would you open a terminal and create a Hardinfo report for the community to view. In it, will contain much needed information about your hardware. This could prove useful as you proceed once you get to the LH64-515 desktop, especially should there be other issues. To get it, type this in the terminal window

Code: Select all

hardinfo -r >> hardinfo-report.txt
gzip hardinfo-report.txt
and attach the file, hardinfo-report.txt.gz, it creates into your post to this thread.

Here to help.

suggestion to address getting X desktop on LH64

#4 Post by gcmartin »

Usually VESA works, so could you try this at boot-time as it over-rides automatic video selection. (You may already have noticed this on the F2/F3 screens you see at boot time)

Code: Select all

lhp pfix=ram,nosfs,pure64,vesa

Also, you may want to move this request to themain LightHouse64-515 thread. I think more people would see it and be able to help understand and address a work-around.

The solution that is derived here would be useful as LH64 moves forward.

Or, you may want to adjust the thread's title to reflect that this thread is about "Video issue when booting LightHouse64".

Here to help.

mrbulldog,

I'm working on a new build of Lighthouse 64 with a newer kernel, Xorg and glibc; hopefully it will work better with recent hardware. ATI already considers my Radeon HD 3200 video a legacy product, however they do still offer a driver for it. It seems my box is getting outdated even though it is 64-bit. :(

Thanks tazoc.
I would be a really happy bulldog if you were to email me when you finish your new build of Lighthouse 64 with a newer kernel.
