Dialup Woes

#1 Post by Frank Cox »

For several years I used Puppy for dialup and it worked with about half of the winmodems and all the time with my external serial modems and last year with USB winmodems. Now all I can get 431 to even recognize is the USb winmodem but I can't connect.
Here is the log http://pastebin.com/RjgNU76E

Several years back ppp stopped working for my winmodem due to a file being somehow corrupted.

When I booted from a livecd, of whichever pupversion i was using back then, dialup worked fine. So i mounted the harddrive puppy .sfs file, then ran diff on the cd's /usr/bin, and the mounted sfs /usr/bin, and found a program in /usr/sbin had been modified. Copying over the cd version, then dialup was OK again. I think it mught have been /usr/sbin/pppd.

Worth trying to see if a livecd works anyway.
