Openshot-1.4.2 For Saluki

#1 Post by battleshooter »

I know 1.4.3 is available, but I forgot update the SFS before uploading it. It's not hard to install over the SFS though if you're game to try it.

Download:
openshot-1.4.2.sfs

About Openshot:

OpenShot Video Editor is a free, open-source video editor for Linux. OpenShot can take your videos, photos, and music files and help you create the film you have always dreamed of. Easily add sub-titles, transitions, and effects, and then export your film to DVD, YouTube, Vimeo, Xbox 360, and many other common formats. Check out the full feature list, view screenshots, or watch videos of OpenShot in action!

Openshot's pretty cool. I like its title rendering features and the cool effects you can get (relatively) easily compared to Kdenlive.

I didn't really have anything to do with this package. It's just straight out of the Saluki repo with the fix that lets you play media without Openshot crashing. I figured if I found it annoying installing all the individual files for every new pupsave, someone else might find all in one convenience handy.

Install:
Best to apply on a clean pupsave or one without Python, Pyobject or any of the Openshot dependencies.

Hi Battleshooter,

I have had no luck with either of your recent video editor SFS's in Saluki.

Openshot doesn't even start for me in Saluki 021.

Terminal output gives me this:

Code: Select all

------------------------- ERROR 1 ------------------------------
Failed to import 'from openshot import main'
Error Message: cannot import name main
----------------------------------------------------------------

** (process:17662): WARNING **: Trying to register gtype 'GMountMountFlags' as enum when in fact it is of type 'GFlags'

** (process:17662): WARNING **: Trying to register gtype 'GDriveStartFlags' as enum when in fact it is of type 'GFlags'

** (process:17662): WARNING **: Trying to register gtype 'GSocketMsgFlags' as enum when in fact it is of type 'GFlags'
--------------------------------
   OpenShot (version 1.4.2)

Any suggestions?

Awkward. I've only tested them in 019. I think I have a download of 023 hanging around somewhere so I'll try and reproduce the error. Could you try the SFS on a clean pupsave?

The closest Saluki iso I have to 021 is 022. Hopefully it gives close enough results. On a separate clean pupsaves both Kdenlive and Openshot work. Just in case there was a problem with both together on the same pupsave I test that too and they both worked. It leaves me to think there is dependency clash happening on your system.

I quickly googled the error you're getting and it seems to be related to Pygobject being compiled before March this year and not being patched. Do you have existing versions of Pygobject, or GooCanvas on your system? I think I remember reading somewhere on the forum that SFSs do not override system files so the SFS may be using your previously installed versions.

But that only discusses Openshot, When you say "no luck with either of your recent video editor SFS's in Saluki." You mean Kdenlive as well right? What error message are you getting for that?

And finally, the tried and true just in case it's a simple problem:

ok, I restarted saluki with pfix=ram and openshot ran ok, as stable as it does on anything else I've used, so its my saluki that is the problem.

I don't know what to do to change my pygobject files. Can I just copy the ones out of your SFS and over write the ones in my save file?

The pygobject files are just from the repo, so if you want to download that pet, it'll probably be easier than trying to find them in the SFS. Hopefully that will sort it out :? If not, just stick the new error message down and we'll try to make sense of it.

I've had problems (crashes, locks, etc.) with every single version of Openshot I've tried, for Lucid, Slacko and this one. But this one works and it's useable, especially if I save my work often.

(edit: unfortunately, after trying this for a while, it seems counterproductive. It takes more than 20 minutes to edit 20 seconds because of the crashes, and I'm not working frame by frame. Also hard to sync because it slows down too much, but that may be because my computer is too weak, although it does run Windows Movie Maker fine, even if that is a more limited program in theory.)

Hard to tell if it's a problem with the source code, or if my computer is not powerful enough.

In any case, I just wanted to post that this .sfs will stop working if you install Java (jre), but I figured out a hack:

1. find the libavcodec.so.53 in /usr/lib/ and copy it somewhere, in root for example.
2. install the jre .pet
3. put the above mentioned file back into the /usr/lib. Now you will have both Java and Openshop working in Saluki.

Openshot 1.4.2 for Saluki works in Slacko 5.6 non-PAE

#8 Post by mikeslr »

Hi Battleshooter & all,

Just thought I should mention that your Openshot 1.4.2 seems to work OK OOTB in Slacko 5.6 with the 3.4.52 kernel AKA, Slacko 5.6.4G-NON-PAE. I don't know if using it would interfere with applications using newer libs or a newer base system. But I haven't notice any conflict with my usual apps.

There's a youtube suggesting that while kdenlive maybe better for assembling projects, some people have complained about it crashing while rendering. If that's the case, then openshot can be used to render a kdenlive project.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVA10Z573Zs.

If that technique is of interest, you may want to try Battleshooter's kdenlive:

Your openshot works fine in Saluki 012, which unfortunately seems no longer to be available. You've mentioned that it works in Saluki 019. So the chances are that it will also work in Saluki 013 thru 018, which together with 019 can be found here: http://www.smokey01.com/saluki/isos/

#10 Post by mikeslr »

Per Mike Walsh's report, this version runs under upupbb, Bionic Beaver: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 73#1004273

The above post also provides a link to ally's archive.org from which you can download the SFS.
