LCARS for Puppy Subject description: For Jwm, Openbox, E16, etc... |
|
Hello,
As an avid Trekkie for 40 some years, I thought I`d take the Trek experience to Puppy..
LCARS http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LCARS is the Computer Interface from Star Trek..
So I`m throwing together some themes and such..
This is the first, unfinished example..
Just Jwm, Wbar, and Conky..
Same as above but with an added Conky-Lua..
Same as above, but purple and in E16 with the E16 Lcars theme.
If anyone else is interested I`ll make an .sfs and a .pet or two.
Will work on:
Xfce, with and without Compiz...
Matching Jwm/Openbox/GTK/Rox/etc themes.
I am working on a "full on" theme switcher for Puppy, but till I make a few "full on" themes, it can wait..
Comments, suggestions??

Being the hopelessly nerdy person I am (no chance of normality here!) I'd LOVE to see this develop into something more.
BTW:
Library
Computer
Access and
Retrieval
System
Make it so

Very nice but will have to keep TREK Pup and Lobster’s Klingon Pup apart.

Hello,
TrekPup will crush KlingonPup and drive them back to the neutral zone..
It only looks like a Federation Puppy. Remember, "We are the "Borg"".
Puppy now assimilates other Distros, takes the "Best of what is your`s, and make it our own, adding to our perfection."
As for the whole Lcars for Puppy thing, here is where I am ATM.
I want the package to contain espeak, because the "Computer" must speak!!
Easy peasy.. So what I have now is a "Talking Wbar".
And the "speech" can be edited thru the existing Wbar config!!!
I looked at speech recog as well, but Linux recog stuff seems to be oss friendly, but not alsa..
Will continue to try to find a lightweight (FOSS) recog engine for Puppy..
I soooo wanna say "Computer" and hear that "beep"!!!
I do not want to use Wine....
Progress:
Espeak/Wbar/Backdrop pretty much done..
Startup and some systems sounds done, more to do.
Conky, OTOH is so configurable, the possibilities seem endless...
The left side "System" stuff I am happy with.. I removed anything not Puppy generic..
It has good functionality, the best I have seen, but can be improved.
Jwm and GTK themes almost make me happy...
I think this thing needs its own GUI, but have not started that yet...
Issues::
If your Puppy has pwidgets, its a PITA.. Will get back on that one. Pwidgets is tied to the default BG..
I need to create a GUI for Espeak in GTKdialog for Puppy, as the heavily python dependent default isnt gonna be generic Puppy friendly..
Wbar is speaking en. However, with the CLI, other languages and accents are available...
Ideas:
"Ship" specific Conky..
( Hard one, but cool ) Link all the yafsplash stuff to espeak!!! (Messages spoken!! )
Pipe the terminal to stdin in espeak.. (Talking Terminal?)
Start media in a window conforming to theme etc until full-screened.. (Maybe to varied to accomplish..)
Compiz... (Need I elaborate?? Cube desktop, beaming windows in and out, and more)
And....????????
Actually, it is really usable this way.. I`ve been using it on dpup and its real "campy"
People really look when it says "Accessing Root Data Directory" etc...
Geez, I really am a geek huh???
