Wary and Racy 5.3.90 (5.4beta1)
Blog announcement and download links:
http://bkhome.org/blog/?viewDetailed=03011
It has been awhile, over 5 months. Wary and Racy 5.3 were released on April 5, 2012, see blog announcement:
http://bkhome.org/blog/?viewDetailed=02784
So, we need to get another Wary and Racy release out there! The kernels have been left at same versions as for 5.3, and for future Warys that will probably never change. However, the kernel for Racy can be upgraded, as can Xorg, but I might target that for version 5.5 (the next after 5.4).
For now, lots of Woof infrastructure and application upgrades.
Please test!

Manual frugal install of Wary 5.3.90 to sda 15 on my old P3 test box. Failed to find the sfs.
Burned a cd,used installer to install to sda15 ........failed to find the sfs.
Finally installed to sda6 and Wary finally booted. I have 5 or 6 other frugals on sda 15 with no problem so......
Anyway, display and sound good on boot....... used SNS for internet and connection was persistent.

First Look:
Wary 5.3.90 incredibly slow even on decent (old) kit eg AMD2500+ with 768Mb.
The PPM Flashplayer options offered do not seem to match the SM version which asks for 10.3 or higher.
Otherwise, welcomed home and comfortable like an old pair of slippers.
Racy 5.3.90 - different ball-game, everything works and fast. Tyson present, where is the surfing mutt? Quick right click on sr0 causes its disappearance.

Out of curiosity, does this one now have dbus and dbus-glib included or does it make use of the nobus method as posted by Technosaurus?
Also, can I draw your attention to this post which mentions a problem with compiling Linphone in Wary or Racy 5.3
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 3&start=75
Is there any chance that this might be resolved during the development of 5.4 please?

So far all seems good with Wary. Another nice background.
As expected - extremely low resource usage. Nice.

1 issue. Cant get 1 finger tapping for left click to work, I couldn't in some older slacko's too so I guess it's the older Xorg or older kernel module.
1 request. That purple gui for mtpaint screen capture is antiquated! I made a nice GUI that takes screen caps here called simply "screeny". It takes window snaps, fullscreen, auto resizes for the forum (as an option), opens for editing in defaultpaint (as an option), can turn off splash messages for speed.. all in 14k (including the xwd dependency, compiled in Racy, works fine in wary).

My RACY beta1 experience
Booted RACY on laptop without a LAN cable and on an 8GB desktop which has 2 motherboard LAN adapters where no cable exist in eth0 while a cable to DHCP router exist in eth1. FirstRUN isn't showing Hostname sections for system on either system.
On the Laptop after several hours of tests, I plugged in a USB drive which has 4 partitions. After about 3-4 minutes of navigating, ROX "locked"!!! In order to regain desktop I had to use,.
On the desktop, initial boot give a signal out of range. And required a to see desktop of the nVidia 250 video card.
Another problem
On the laptop: Desktop tailoring and installation of 01Micko's SAMBA package with a save session to HDD as a 256MB Ext4 file would NOT reboot system using the save session. Only reboot alternative is pfix=ram or pfix=1. Thus, the save-session had to be purged.
I do understand that this is beta. I would provide any logs or information to help. Please provide guidance should more information be needed on either of the 2 platforms I mentioned
RACY running on Laptop with Flash, Seamonkey, GParted fix and SAMBA (01Micko's) installed and running provides the following measurement:And, when running on the 8GB system, I have a similar RAM "used" picture.
As always, the system is speedy and responsive.
Requesting I'm sure the BUG in WOOF version of FirstRUN has been noticed.

Re: Wary
Simple Network Setup (SNS) will only work if DHCP is working on your network. Try using Network Wizard instead, this will allow you to set up with Static IP. Wired network devices are usually called eth0 (at least they are on the machines I use at home).rameshiyer wrote:I have installed frugal wary on my office PC.
I was not able to configure LAN. ie. static IP is not possible. Hence no internet on my office PC while using Wary beta.
