Realtek RTL8192CU drivers Subject description: Drivers for micro-usb wireless adapters |
|
This is the compiled usb wireless driver for Puppy 4.31, kernel 2.6.30.5, for devices with the Realtek RTL8192cu driver. This USB adapter is 802.11B/G/N and VERY small, less than 1/2" square, just about the same size as the USB connector it is attached to, also very inexpensive, I bought mine on Ebay for $6.50 US including shipping. They are great for adding wireless to laptops or desktops or for upgrading to 802.11N. They support WEP, WPA, and WPA2 encryption.
After the driver is installed, during the first setup, you will be asked if you want to add the driver to the list of devices that support WPA encryption.
- click: add to list

- click: ok

I am using racy puppy 5.3.
Do I just download and run this PET?
If so, my usb wifi thumbnail dongle does not work with it.
I read somewhere else that it i might need the new driver from realtek site. Is that the case with this PET also ?
Really hoping to get this going. Appreciate any help out there.

What is the exact Realtek device you're trying to use?

Wifi drivers like this are kernel-specific, so one built for Puppy 431 won't work in Racy.
I don't know of anyone in the community who is building drivers for Racy, but there one available for Lupu here.

Thanks.
Installed lupu 5.2.8 after a bit of fuss as my old laptop would not boot 5.2.8 to boot off live cd (works for most other distros)
Ended up taking hd out of laptop, connecting to pc ide, installing it there.
Anyway, downloaded the lupu PET and all working. Just need to download flash now. The Getflash is not working.
Cheers.
