Hi,
I'm helping out a friend with a broken LCD screen on her Dell Inspiron 600m.
The screen is smashed. See screenshot.
But, the rest of the machine is working fine.
I'm using a external monitor hookup to access the OSes and rescue data for her.
My question is:
Is there any physical danger of a chemical leaking from the screen?
(The screen doesn't show any signs of a chemical leak.)
Thanks in advance. (I know nothing of the physical make up of an LCD screen).
Edit: PS - There is a tiny bit of the screen showing. So, the backlight is working.

Is Broken LCD Screen a health concern? [SOLVED]

An LCD is two sheets of glass, one or both with patterns of a transparent conductor on the side facing the other, and a microscopic quantity of some chemical called a liquid crystal sandwiched between them. I sure hope the liquid crystal isn't dangerous. I've replaced many broken ones in cameras. However I've never seen evidence that any of the "liquid crystal" leaked out and in any case it's a derivative of cholesterol so I don't think it's particularly dangerous. They couldn't sell it if it was, could they?

No danger. Just keep clear of the glass fragments.
Ouch! That's not a screen, that's a splat!
...BTW I have a 600m (or most of one... it needs hard drive, battery, and charger) that is wasting space in my house. It works (I got a friend to lend me a brick, it does boot), but I've no use for it. If you'd like it, I'll send it to you for cost of postage or thereabouts.
Shoot me a PM if you're interested.

UPDATE on Dell Inspiron 600m with smashed monitor screen.
I took the monitor, lid and all, off the machine and connected the machine to an external monitor.
The machine works with no issues without the lid and screen attached.
Lucid Puppy-528.005 is running flawlessly on the Dell 600m
The external monitor is a beautiful Samsung 20" flat screen.
We're striding uptown with the setup.
