Puppy save file keeps getting smaller |
|
Hey guys
Basically i had some problems with the full hd install so i now just use a save file for my setting and all my files are on my hard disk but puppy isn't installed.
The save file is on my usb stick but it keeps running out of space even though im not putting anything on it. All that is on it is firefox and flash, the other programs i need i move on to my hdd.
the save file is 756mb but it only has 82mb left. how is this possible nothing is on it really certainly not 500mb worth of stuff. I already had to increase it once. it goes up and down, sometimes i have 350+mb free. but overall it is getting lower and lower with the ups and downs that it does.
Does anybody know why ?
Thanks tyo

You run Opera as well? Something you can try.. Narrow it down with: du -h --max-depth=1 /

sh-4.1# du -x --block-size=1024K | sort -nr | head -10

555 ./.mozilla/firefox
555 ./.mozilla

32 ./.mozilla/firefox/nunzpnku.default/Cache/9
32 ./.mozilla/firefox/nunzpnku.default/Cache/3
29 ./.mozilla/firefox/nunzpnku.default/Cache/F
So it's my firefox cache taking up all the space ?

The firefox cache folder is almost 500mb.
I think a sticky would be a good idea. I had no idea about this before. Must be other people like me with basic knowledge.
Thanks again guys.
always helpful on here. Manage to get things working again on the same day.

Below's a thought.. For the most part- always suspect trouble in the /root directory..

To boot- ncdu (in Slacko's repo) may be an easier to work with alternative to the cmd I posted..

Puppy save file keeps getting smaller |

shinobar posted an excellent and comprehensive HOWTO (Keep your savefile slim and healthy : You can manage with small save file) back in Nov 2010.
It can be found here:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=62110
It is certainly worthy of being made into a "sticky"
