I have a HP Deskjet Printer/scanner, and whilst the print side works OK I cannot get the scanner to work. I just get a message no scanner found.

Can anyone help ?

I've never run a scanner in Linux but this page might help get you going:

What driver, if any, did you install to get the printer working? Run the CUPS setup wizard and check your printer.

The HPLIP scanner package is hplip_scan-3.12.6.pet.

@bvpainter

I currently use an HP Deskjet 3050A J611G printer, scanner and copier. I installed the hplip pet packages posted by rcrsn51 at the bottom of the first post in this thread that he started http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=59015 entitled

How to Install Your Printer/Scanner in Puppy

This thread may be worth the read even though you have succeeded in printing to your printer.

SCAN

I am able to use the scan funtion on the 3050A by one of two methods.

The first method involves installing Peasyscan pet package which may be found in the first post of this thread by rcrsn51 http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=61046 entitled

Peasyscan Image Scanner Program

If you read through the thread you will find instructions for using this program to scan from your printer. Here is the short version.

Use your file manager to locate the Peasyscan configuration sample file name config-sample.cfg. It will be found in /usr/local/peasyscan. Copy the file to the "config" folder found in the same location.

Rename your sample file to something like 3050A.cfg. Open the file with a text editor.

Quote:
<uri>hpaio:/net/Officejet_4500_G510n-z?ip=192.168.2.215</uri>
<source>Automatic Document Feeder</source>
<mode>Gray</mode>
<resolution>300</resolution>

Edit the contents of the sample file shown in the above quote to include the information for your printer. The device URI may found in the printers.conf file at /etc/cups.

This is how my config file looks:

Quote:
<uri>hpaio:/net/Deskjet_3050A_J611_series?ip=192.168.1.78</uri>
<source>Automatic Document Feeder</source>
<mode>Gray</mode>
<resolution>300</resolution>

The other method for scanning from this printer is to place the device uri in the address bar of my default browser like this:

http://192.168.1.78 (substitute the uri for your printer). You should see a page in your browser that looks just like the screen shot at the bottom of this post. You will be able select the "scan" function from that page.
