Anyone tried Bumblebee in Puppy?
Anyone tried Bumblebee in Puppy?
Has anyone tried Bumblebee on any puppy linux distro?
Bumblebee is a program that enables nvidia optimus technology to be used
in Linux. There is compiled versions for ArchLinux, Ubuntu and Mandriva.
see
http://bumblebee-project.org/
Is there a puppy linux distro that you think could run any of these?
Could it be compiled for any puppy linux distros?
Please help, I'm a noob in Linux but has knowledge with windows programming(And I'm very tired of anything from M$ )
PS If it doesnt work with puppy linux which of ArchLinux, Ubuntu and Mandriva is easiest to get on a usb flash drive?

Puppy 5.2x Lucid is based on Ubuntu
where as Slacko 5.3x is based on Slackware.
You may be able to find a .deb package that works (package format for Ubuntu and Debian)
Or you could try compiling, you will need the devx sfs, for the C compiler. the standard routine is
./configure
make
make install (or new2dir make install - compiled files stored to a separate directory)
the instruction and download are here:-
https://github.com/Bumblebee-Project/Bumblebee
for each of the requirements you may need a PET, a DEB or to compile.
good look ; -)

i know for a fact there are slack builds for it. so if your using slacko puppy you can try one of those and it 'might' work.
there should be a debian versions out there too if your using lucid puppy.
id try building it but without the hardware to build it on... testing would be rather impossible for me. haha
give us a rundown of your hardware and puppy version so we can better help.

I prefer Fatdog64 but could switch to Slacko or if worst comes to worst

1) Do you even have an Optiumus card? You say that you do , but your hardware specs list an Intel card?
Try running this at the command line:
Paste the output here.
OR you can install sys-info: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 43&t=60462
and attach the generated report here. Check as it may be on your system already.
2) Have you in installed the latest Nvidia driver?
3) Have you tried installing Bumblebee or any of its predecessors yet? I ask because some of the older ones can actually mess up your card and you'll have to try (and hope) you can recover it.
4) Depending on the answers for 1-3, read on...
You will have to blacklist the nouveau driver as well.
BACKUP your system before you attempt installing this!

Answer
1) I am on Windows now but I can say for sure that I have an Optimus setup
2) I tried installing Nvidia driver and failed misrably, I think that was in slacko. However when I read here in forum there seems to be people
who installed nvidia and runs only nvidia part and by that turning off Optimus and intelHD graphics. That would be an OK solution since powerconsumption is not relevant for me
3) Nope didnt try it, Dunnow how to install tarballs on puppy linux. Only installed sfs and pet files. I am not exactly sure how repositories work either.
And not used to work with dependencies when installing. As I said Im migrating from windows.
4) when I find some time I will try this for sure. Thanks for Links
What is Fatboy based on? Ubuntu?

tried
Tried installing the files you offered.
Did it by unpacking them in root directory? Is that correct?
Then running doinstall.sh in unpacked folder "install"
Blacklisted noveau driver during boot with boot params. Is that correct?
Tried to start the daemon and got error message. Will hack around with it more soon
