It's window manager related - to be specific the native pager for jwm offers this rclick+drag moving of windows (easier with an autohide oversize pager in its own dedicated tray .. see the jwm threads in eyecandy for details or maybe the howto section, I know I updated something not too long ago for recent jwm pager tray customization) .. ah, here it is

Otherwise the old standby Alt(orCtrl)+leftdrag (or equivalent keycombo) does it to move that window to where you can get to buttons in almost any window manager, it may take a few drags on a netbook if the window is ridiculously high or wide.

I guess I will use "... the old standby Alt(orCtrl)+leftdrag" for now.

Hopefully someone will fix the layered windows code so that it reads the display geometry and sizes itself appropriately - no overlapping.

It is unclear to me why the source window is properly sized yet the spawned window is awkwardly dimensioned - the necessary data has to be readily available.

Easy for me to speculate ... I'm not the one writing the code! Embarassed

If you look at the screenshots of 5X14 here you will see that 5X14 does indeed have virtual desktops in the tray.

Here is another attempt to explain virtual desktops. I downloaded squeeze-5.X.14-SCSI.iso burned it onto a CD and booted the live CD. This is a screenshot of the default desktop.

Below is a partial screenshot of the relevant part of the screen showing the virtual desktops. As you can see 'Virtual Desktop 1' with the black background is the desktop that has focus and the little white square represents the Rox Filer on the actual desktop.

So, if you left-click on the top bar (where the green X is) of the Rox Filer you are able to drag the Rox Filer around your desktop. As you do this you will see the little white box move around 'Virtual Desktop 1'. Mirroring what is happening on the actual desktop.

However, 5X14 was unable to detect my screen resolution (1360x768) and set the screen to 1024x768. Searching through the menus I came across screen settings and selecting the correct one (1360x768), the desktop appeared to extend well beyond the edges of my monitor with the tray disappearing off the bottom of the screen. This maybe the cause of your problems.

I also have a netbook and wary-512 HD install runs on it without any problems. So unless there is absolute need to run 5X14 I would suggest running one of the main versions of puppy would be a better alternative.

Thanks for that.

Here's the thing ...

1. This doesn't help with the E-mail "View Settings for this account" window as one must first Alt-LeftButton and move it before the top is accessible.

2. I'm not sure of the purpose of the "virtual window" since even in a regular window on the desktop only moving the desktop window shows in the little box, nothing I do in the little box moves the desktop window.

3. There is apparently something broken in the window-painting code in 5X14 which causes the resolution challenge you observed and the sub-window overlap that I am observing.

4. I went with the Exprimo series because it solved some problems I was having a while back, and then have stayed with it because I am used to the way it works. I'm testing the newest version 5X3248 ... will see ...

Thanks!
