[SOLVED]Audio card not detected

#1 Post by nonekiller »

I recently started to try Wary Puppy linux (most recent version) on my old Compaq persario series CM2010 laptop. I did a frugal install of it, down in the corner there is no sound icon in the start menu bar and when i try to un-mute my sound from the alsa sound wisard nothing comes up. Then when i run the ALSA WIZARD it detects no sound cards, it shows

"GETTING STARTED...
Building card database, please wait...
...no device found
error: modinfo: could not find module snd-cs4232
probing legacy cards.. this may take a few minutes..
probing: op13sa2/cs4236/cs4231/es18xx/sb16/sb8/usr/sbin/alsaconf: line 1195:ac_try_card_op13sa2?cs4236/cs4231/es18xx/sb16/sb8: no such file or directory"

i have also tryed to use lucid puppy but i have the same problem, i do not know the specs on the sound card but i know it works, it worked on 98 that came stock with it. Any help would be appreciated.

Sure????

No such animal.

Searches keep telling me it's a battery.

::::::

Try Puppy 4.31

because it's always a barker.

Then see what the soundcard is.

hi nonekiller,

you can use HardInfo to find out what devices Puppy has detected.

http://puppylinux.org/wikka/HowToDetectDevices

the 'no sound icon' does suggest that the device isn't detected. did you run the ALSA Sound Wizard (in Setup)?

-------
that narrows it down a bit ; -)

http://www.ehow.com/facts_7662088_compa ... ation.html
The CM2010 has an AC input of 100 to 240 volts and 50 to 60 hertz. The DC output runs at 19 volts, 2.16 amperes and 60 watts. The power connector is standard at 5.5 millimeters, but also has an adapter for 2.5 millimeter ports.
....
For Compaqs, the CM2010 fits the following Presario series: 700, 800, 1000, 1200, 1400, 1600, 1700, 1800, 2700 and 2900. Also, the family of Presario 12XL, 14XL, 17XL, 18XL and 80XL series is compatible....

Compaq Audio JBL Pro Audio System with Bass Reflex

• High-performance JBL Pro speakers with neodymium magnets

• High-power, low-distortion amplifiers for high-fidelity sound

• Ported bass reflex enclosures increase low-end frequency response

• 10-stage equalization maximizes output and bandwidth while minimizing distortion
(sorry for getting the model number wrong)

Mate... I can forgive you now as you are at least Year 2000 compliant.

" NSTL Year 2000 compliant "

""""""""

Not looking good on my searches.

However are you sure that it won't run >> ESS 1869/1887/1888

going by this site.

http://www.soundcard-drivers.com/drivers/0/693.htm

Presario Specific Models ESS 1869/1887/1888 Audio Driver

"Compaq Presario notebooks, desktops, and minitowers with ESS 1869/1887/1888 Audio, including Compaq Presario 1600, 1624, 1625, 1636, 1640, 1650, 1655, 2240, 2244 "

"""""""

I would suggest trying Classic Puppy >> 214x-Top6.1

He has later versions...but try that.

An old Puppy...but highly updated by ttuuxxx .

He's a an ex Canadian....but otherwise he's a goodie.

Good luck....Chris.

If you want to avoid burning CDs it's easy to do a frugal install manually from the .iso
Do you know a good gtkdialog program? Please post a link here

It now detects the sound card but it still dosent play audio, i know it's not muted.
NVM: fixed it by using the DEVX.SFS file
