[SOLVED]Audio card not detected |
|
I recently started to try Wary Puppy linux (most recent version) on my old Compaq persario series CM2010 laptop. I did a frugal install of it, down in the corner there is no sound icon in the start menu bar and when i try to un-mute my sound from the alsa sound wisard nothing comes up. Then when i run the ALSA WIZARD it detects no sound cards, it shows
"GETTING STARTED...
Building card database, please wait...
...no device found
error: modinfo: could not find module snd-cs4232
probing legacy cards.. this may take a few minutes..
probing: op13sa2/cs4236/cs4231/es18xx/sb16/sb8/usr/sbin/alsaconf: line 1195:ac_try_card_op13sa2?cs4236/cs4231/es18xx/sb16/sb8: no such file or directory"
i have also tryed to use lucid puppy but i have the same problem, i do not know the specs on the sound card but i know it works, it worked on 98 that came stock with it. Any help would be appreciated.

Sure????
No such animal.
Searches keep telling me it's a battery.
::::::
Try Puppy 4.31
because it's always a barker.
Then see what the soundcard is.

hi nonekiller,
you can use HardInfo to find out what devices Puppy has detected.
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/HowToDetectDevices
the 'no sound icon' does suggest that the device isn't detected. did you run the ALSA Sound Wizard (in Setup)?
-------
that narrows it down a bit ; -)

....
For Compaqs, the CM2010 fits the following Presario series: 700, 800, 1000, 1200, 1400, 1600, 1700, 1800, 2700 and 2900. Also, the family of Presario 12XL, 14XL, 17XL, 18XL and 80XL series is compatible....

Mate... I can forgive you now as you are at least Year 2000 compliant.
" NSTL Year 2000 compliant "
""""""""
Not looking good on my searches.
However are you sure that it won't run >> ESS 1869/1887/1888
going by this site.

If you want to avoid burning CDs it's easy to do a frugal install manually from the .iso
